Flamengo are exploring a deal with Arsenal which would see Jorginho join in time for this summer’s Club World Cup.
The 33-year-old’s contract with Arsenal expires at the end of June and he is set to join the Brazilian club on a free transfer.
The contract is expected to see him stay at the Brazilian club until December 2028, and discussions now are underway over Arsenal releasing him early to allow him to feature for his new club in the Club World Cup, which begins earlier in June.

While no agreement has yet been struck, Arsenal are willing to accommodate Jorginho’s wish to participate in the Club World Cup if an appropriate deal between the clubs can be found.
Flamengo begin their tournament against ES Tunis on June 17 and will also face Chelsea and one of LAFC or Club America in Group D.
After four years at Napoli and five years at Chelsea, Arsenal signed Jorginho from Chelsea in January 2023 in a deal worth £12million ($14.8m). He signed an 18-month contract with the club, going on to sign a short-term extension in May 2024.
The midfielder has established himself as a trusted and experienced member of Mikel Arteta’s side, making 79 appearances for the north London club.
It is yet to be seen what Jorginho’s departure means for Arsenal’s summer plans.
The Athletic previously reported that Arsenal are expecting midfielder Martin Zubimendi to join them from Real Sociedad this summer. The Athletic also reported in April that Arsenal want to keep Thomas Partey at the club beyond his existing contract and are in talks with the midfielder about a new deal.
