The ongoing betting scandal involving Shohei Ohtani has taken another dramatic turn as the lead federal prosecutor investigating the case has quietly resigned. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeff Mitchell, who was heading the probe into Ohtani’s former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara, stepped down from his post on May 16, leading to speculation that the case may be losing momentum. Mitchell’s resignation, however, has cast doubt on whether the case remains a priority for prosecutors.
