Kampf um Alonso-Nachfolger – Bayer-Bosse telefonieren täglich mit Fàbregas

Neun Fotos, sieben Worte. Damit verabschiedete sich Xabi Alonso (43) am Montag via Instagram von den Leverkusener Fans. Die Bilder zeigen ihn u. a. mit dem DFB-Pokal im Mannschaftsbus und bei der spontanen Meisterfeier im April 2024. Emotion pur. Er schreibt dazu: „Lived it. Loved it. Forever Bayer 04 Leverkusen.“ „Er habe es gelebt, er habe es geliebt. Für immer Bayer 04 Leverkusen.“

Alonso, der zu Real Madrid geht, hinterlässt die größtmögliche Lücke. Auch deshalb kämpfen die Bosse Simon Rolfes (43) und Fernando Carro (60) um den perfekten Nachfolger. Der ist aus ihrer Sicht Cesc Fàbregas (38), Trainer von Como 1907 in Italien.

Der Spanier, den RB Leipzig genauso umgarnt, hat beim Double-Sieger von 2024 das Gefühl bestärkt, dass er Lust auf Alonsos Erbe hätte. Dass er gerne den Neuaufbau gestalten würde. Das ist der Grund, warum die Leverkusener ihr Werben um das Trainer-Top-Talent nicht einstellen, obwohl Como schon vergangene Woche das Zeichen gegeben hat, dass man Fàbregas nicht gehen lasse. Täglich sprechen Rolfes und Carro mit ihrem Wunsch-Kandidaten, mit dessen Berater, mit den Verantwortlichen in Como. Entschieden wird es am Ende voraussichtlich in Indonesien.

Dort sitzen die Haupt-Anteilseigner von Como 1907. Michael und Robert Hartono, die zu den reichsten Indonesiern gehören, haben alle Macht im Verein. Sie sprachen ihr Wechsel-Veto aus, nachdem sich Fàbregas Mitte Mai auf einer Pressekonferenz zumindest verbal so gut wie verabschiedet hatte („Ich will ein Erbe hinterlassen, wenn ich gehe“). Soll nicht gut angekommen sein. Für die Asiaten, so ist zu hören, könnte es mehr um die Gesichtswahrung gehen als um eine Machtdemonstration.

Die Situation von Fàbregas ist mit der von Alonso in Leverkusen zu vergleichen, bevor der seinen Abschied verkündet hat. Der Trainer entscheidet über seine Zukunft, auch wenn der Klub ihn halten will und einen gültigen Vertrag (bis 2028) in Händen hält. Dass Fàbregas am vergangenen Wochenende zurückgerudert ist, ohne ein Bekenntnis zu Como abzugeben, gilt als versöhnliches Zeichen an seine Bosse.

Nur: Dass Leverkusen weiter auf ihn wartet – und seine eigene Frist für eine Entscheidung bis Ende Mai verlängert hat – belegt vor allem: Der Glaube daran, Fàbregas gewinnen zu können, ist ungebrochen. Der Welt- und Europameister hat zu keinem Zeitpunkt eine Absage auch nur angedeutet. Hinzu kommt, dass er der einzige Konsens-Kandidat aller Verantwortlichen bei Bayer ist. Ausstrahlung, Ansprache, Spielstil, Anspruch – Fàbregas überzeugte in Leverkusen auf ganzer Linie.

[–>Dem ehemaligen Weltstar wird zugetraut, die Mannschaft umzubauen und die nächste Erfolgsgeschichte zu schreiben. In Leverkusen ist nicht nur Alonso weg. Abwehrchef Jonathan Tah (29) geht, Jeremie Frimpong (24) wechselt für rund 40 Mio. nach Liverpool. Andere Stars werden folgen. Womöglich sogar der größte: Florian Wirtz (22; siehe Seiten 16-19).

Darin liegt eine Chance für Fàbregas. Geht Wirtz, kann er für über 200 Millionen Euro einkaufen.
