Dave Shapiro, a prominent music agent and co-founder of Sound Talent Group, was among those killed in a tragic plane crash early Thursday morning in San Diego’s Tierrasanta neighborhood.
The 42-year-old was one of several individuals aboard a Cessna Citation II jet that went down around 4 a.m., according to a statement released by his agency.

The identities of the other victims have not yet been disclosed as officials continue efforts to notify families.
Authorities reported that there were no survivors of the crash.
Shapiro was a central figure in the independent music scene, having worked with a roster that included Sum 41, Pierce the Veil, Parkway Drive, and Silverstein.
Before launching Sound Talent Group in 2018, he built a respected career at United Talent Agency and The Agency Group.
He also ran Velocity Records, a label that supported acts like Thursday and Concrete Castles, and played a key role in shaping the careers of several rock and alternative bands.
In addition to his contributions to the music world, Shapiro was a seasoned pilot and aviation enthusiast.
He owned and operated Velocity Aviation, offering flight instruction and sharing his passion for the skies.
Known for his adventurous spirit, Shapiro even headquartered his agency’s San Diego office in an airplane hangar.
Tributes poured in across social media Thursday from musicians, colleagues, and fans who remembered Shapiro for his professionalism, generosity, and dedication to the artists he represented.
Former bandmates, agents, and industry peers described him as a foundational figure who helped launch numerous careers and reshape the independent touring scene.
Also believed to have been on board was Daniel Williams, former drummer for the metal band The Devil Wears Prada.
Though officials have yet to confirm his death, Williams had shared images of the Cessna and its flight details just hours before the incident.
His loss, if confirmed, would mark another blow to the alternative music community.
As the investigation continues, the music industry is left mourning the sudden loss of one of its most respected advocates, someone who lived his life at full throttle, whether onstage, backstage, or in the air.
