Após passar por uma ampla reforma e modernização, o Santiago Bernabéu, estádio do Real Madrid, mostrará mais uma de suas facetas nos próximos anos. A arena será palco do jogo de abertura do Eurobasket de 2029, o campeonato europeu de seleções de basquete.
O plano é parte da organização da 43ª edição da competição, que acontecerá entre Espanha, Estônia, Grécia e Eslovênia, conforme confirmação da Federação Internacional de Basquetebol (Fiba). A fase final terá Madri como sede.
O campo merengue pode receber até 80 mil torcedores em sua versão adaptada para ginásio. Na hipótese de casa cheia, a partida seria um recorde absoluto de público para competições Fiba.
“Estamos animados por levar o Eurobasket a alguns dos principais destinos do basquete do continente. Cada um deles com sua cultura forte e compromisso de entregar um evento incrível”, afirmou o presidente da Fiba, Jorge Garbajosa, nesta quinta-feira.
Antes de tudo isso, todavia, o Eurobasket terá sua 42ª edição. Chipre, Finlândia, Letônia e Polônia são as sedes da competição, que acontecerá entre 27 de agosto e 14 de setembro.

Denver opened with three scoring possessions behind rookie quarterback Bo Nix, who connected with Courtland Sutton for a touchdown and totaled 110 passing yards before exiting. Texans rookie quarterback Graham Mertz made his case as the game's most impressive first-year player, leading three straight scoring drives to build a 16-7 edge for Houston heading into halftime.
