“Billy Joel has announced that he will be canceling all scheduled concerts following a recent diagnosis of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH),” his Instagram post stated. It further explained that his recent performances had exacerbated the condition, “leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance.”
Doctors have advised the rock icon to undergo specialized physical therapy and to refrain from performing during his recovery period. The statement noted that Joel is grateful for “the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health.”
Joel also took a moment to thank his fans for their unwavering support. “I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience and thank you for understanding,” he shared, expressing his eagerness to return to the stage once he is fully recovered.

According to the U.S. National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH) is a condition in which cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) builds up abnormally in the brain. Typically, CSF cushions the brain and spinal cord, but when excess fluid accumulates, it can disrupt normal function.
In more advanced cases, NPH can cause brain damage, difficulty walking, loss of bladder control, and cognitive issues. The most common treatment is surgery to implant a shunt that drains excess fluid through a tube placed under the skin.
