Während die Verhandlungen mit Benficas Alvaro Carreras – Alonso Schlüssel-Transfer, wie berichtet wurde – bereits weit fortgeschritten sein sollen, bleibt auch Leverkusens Abwehr-Star Alejandro Grimaldo (29) eine Option. Laut „AS“ ist Carreras zwar in der „Pole-Position“ für einen Wechsel ins Santiago Bernabéu, doch Grimaldo ist ebenfalls „im Rennen“.

Ein Vorteil von Grimaldo: Er ist ein alter Bekannter von Bald-Real-Trainer Xabi Alonso (43). Der spanische Verteidiger war ein Schlüsselspieler in Alonsos erfolgreicher Zeit bei Leverkusen. Zudem könnte Grimaldo deutlich günstiger sein als Carreras, der zwischen 40 und 50 Millionen Euro kosten soll. „AS“ schätzt Grimaldos Preis auf 15 bis 20 Millionen Euro.
Ein Pluspunkt für Carreras hingegen ist sein Alter. Mit 22 Jahren ist er sieben Jahre jünger als Grimaldo und könnte Madrid länger Freude bereiten, trotz des höheren Preises. Dennoch gilt Grimaldo als starke „Backup“-Option, falls der Carreras-Deal nicht zustande kommt.
