A well-known saying goes that ‘the donkey returns to the wheat’ when a situation that seems settled is repeated once again for no apparent reason or without contributing anything new, and the mere insistence is already irritating. That seems to be the situation of David Benavidez, who does not take his finger off the line of someday being able to face strong>Canelo Alvarez, who has already made it clear that he does not want to know anything about him.

Canelo claims Benavidez is a ‘nobody’: “By the way he talks, he thinks he’s a Superman… He hasn’t achieved anything,” said the Jalisco-born fighter, something that still hurts ‘Red Flag’, who appeared on the Pound 4 Pound podcast with Kamaru Usman and Henry Cejudo, to whom he talked about many topics, highlighting of course that of Canelo Alvarez.
“If Canelo fights me today, it would probably be the biggest fight of his career… That would be the biggest payday he would earn in his career (…) If I’m such a bad fighter that he could come and beat me and I’m nothing, why don’t you come? Shut up. Earn people’s respect and earn a good paycheck. What’s the problem?” said ‘Red Flag’.
Benavidez’s steps and Canelo’s refusal
Benavidez has done everything he can to make a showdown with Canelo a reality, moving up to light heavyweight, settling Oleksandr Gvozdyk and with it the interim WBC title, but none of that has worked and he is still being ignored by the Mexican fighter who is now preparing for his fight with Terence Crawford on September 13.
And it seems that the situation is not going to change, since Benavidez has also realized that on Canelo’s list for his upcoming fights before announcing his retirement, he does not appear, first because the Riyadh Season maintains a narrative that obeys the dance of millions and not the desirable, which although includes his name, is something that Canelo does not want, nor will he want to talk about anymore.
