Doppeltes Floppchen!

Während Lando Norris (25/McLaren) vor Charles Leclerc (27/Ferrari) und Oscar Piastri (24/McLaren) auf die Pole Position für den Großen Preis von Monaco (Sonntag 15 Uhr, Sky) rast, erlebt Mercedes einen Tag zum Vergessen.

George Russell (27) startet beim Rennen im Fürstentum nur von Platz 14, bei Teamkollege Kimi Antonelli (18) reichte es sogar nur für Rang 15. Eine Katastrophe!

Antonelli touchiert kurz vor Ende des ersten Quali-Abschnitts die Streckenbegrenzung in Kurve zehn, landet in der Folge in der Barriere.

Weil der Italiener zuvor aber in 1:11,880 Minuten um den 3,337 Kilometer langen Kurs gefahren war, hätte er sich theoretisch für Q2 qualifiziert.

Teilnehmen kann er daran aber nicht. Der Jungpilot muss seinen Silberpfeil abstellen, zu Fuß zurück in die Box gehen.

[–>Genau wie Russell nur wenige Minuten später. Als der Brite gerade seine schnelle Runde im zweiten Quali-Abschnitt setzen möchte, verliert sein Auto an Leistung. Russell informiert sein Team direkt per Funk.

Doch selbst mit Instruktionen seines Renningenieurs aus der Garage kriegt er seinen Boliden nicht mehr zum Laufen. Russell bleibt ausgerechnet im legendären Tunnel von Monaco stehen, muss von den Streckenposten aus der Gefahrenzone geschoben werden.

Bei Mercedes vermutet man ein elektrisches Problem.

Ganz elektrisiert ist dagegen McLarens Norris. Der Zweite der Fahrer-WM rast nach mehreren enttäuschenden Rennwochenenden auf die Pole Position – und haut mit einer Zeit von 1:09,954 Minuten einen neuen Streckenrekord raus.

Für Nico Hülkenberg (37) ist es ein durchwachsenes Qualifying. Nachdem er vergangene Woche in Imola (Italien) als 17. bereits in Q1 ausgeschieden war, reicht es dieses Mal immerhin für Q2. Über Platz 13 kommt der Deutsche allerdings nicht hinaus.

Aber: Hülkenberg kann Teamkollege Gabriel Bortoleto (20) hinter sich lassen. Der Brasilianer scheidet bereits im ersten Abschnitt des Qualifyings aus, wird nur 16.
