The unexpected spectacle unfolded right after Duran touched home plate. As television cameras scanned the rain-drenched Fenway Park for celebrating fans, this individual, sporting a green Indianapolis 500 t-shirt, appeared with a jug of milk. Without hesitation, they upended the container, drenching themselves in white, with only a modest amount actually reaching their mouth.
This milky outburst seems to be a nod to a peculiar tradition from the Indianapolis 500, where the race winners have been known to chug milk in Victory Lane since 1936. Typically, more of the celebratory beverage ends up streaming down their faces than actually being consumed.
Interestingly, this moment of bovine celebration at Fenway Park coincided with the lead-up to the Indianapolis 500, with two-time defending champion Josef Newgarden aiming for a three-peat. Just like the Red Sox game, the Indy 500 was also set to air on a Fox network.
