Schon seit langer Zeit stehen Michael Edwards, Fußball-Chef der Fenway Sports Group (FSG), die die Mehrheitsanteile am FC Liverpool hält, und Bayer Leverkusens Sport-Geschäftsführer Simon Rolfes (43) im Austausch. Es geht um zwei Spieler: Jeremie Frimpong (24) und Florian Wirtz (22).
Während die „Reds“ bei Rechtsverteidiger Frimpong (hat bereits den Medizincheck absolviert) die Ausstiegsklausel in Höhe von rund 40 Millionen Euro aktivieren wollen, besteht beim deutschen Nationalspieler Wirtz Verhandlungsbedarf.

Leverkusens Ablöseforderung von rund 150 Millionen Euro steht seit langer Zeit felsenfest. Der FC Liverpool ist dank der FSG durchaus in der Lage, diese Forderung zu erfüllen – aber (noch) nicht dazu bereit.
Englischen Medienberichten zufolge will der Premier-League-Klub die Summe auf höchstens rund 135 Millionen Euro drücken. Offen ist, wie sich das Paket zusammensetzt, wie hoch die fixe Ablösesumme ist und wie hoch die möglichen Bonuszahlungen.
Sicher ist: Liverpool will Wirtz unbedingt! Und Wirtz, der im November 2024 mit Bayer in der Champions League an der Anfield Road zu Gast und von der Atmosphäre beeindruckt war, will zum LFC.
