O Conselho Deliberativo do Corinthians aprovou, nesta segunda-feira, o afastamento de Augusto Melo da presidência do clube. Em reunião com a presença de 236 conselheiros, com 234 votantes (mais uma abstenção e uma ausência de voto), 176 votaram a favor do afastamento cautelar e 57 foram contra.
Pelos ritos do clube, quem assume o comando interinamente é Osmar Stábile, primeiro vice-presidente. Presidente do Conselho Deliberativo, Romeu Tuma Jr. agora tem cinco dias para convocar a Assembleia Geral dos sócios, que votarão para ratificar (ou não a decisão). Caso o impeachment seja ratificado, o Conselho Deliberativo elegerá internamente um novo presidente, que cumprirá o mandato até o fim de 2026. Já se os sócios forem contra a decisão, Melo volta à presidência.
Momentos antes do início da reunião, Melo reconheceu antecipadamente a derrota. Em discurso não programado à imprensa presente no Parque São Jorge, o dirigente falou em sair “de cabeça erguida”.
— Saio de cabeça erguida. Se estamos fazendo algo bom para o Corinthians, o que estamos fazendo de errado? O seu dever, torcedor, é também cobrar. Cobrem as aberturas das contas. Por que vocês acham que queriam me tirar daqui correndo? O torcedor agora tem a chance de cobrar as aberturas das contas. Façam isso pelo bem do Corinthians. Obrigado, até breve — disse ele no trecho final da fala.
Em seu discurso, Melo enumerou o que considerou como conquistas de sua gestão: segundo ele, salários em dia há sete meses, contratos com a Multipark, contratos do CT e de alojamento da base e com a fornecedora de material esportivo Adidas. Ainda de acordo com o dirigente, sua gestão obteve arrecadação de cerca de R$ 3 bilhões. Nas redes sociais, ele fez post detalhando os feitos alegados.
O processo se arrasta desde dezembro do ano passado. Numa primeira reunião, Melo obteve liminar que a adiou. Em janeiro, novo encontro do Conselho chegou à etapa de votação da admissibilidade do processo de impedimento, mas não foi adiante por conta de horário e alegações de falta de segurança.
Augusto Melo foi eleito presidente do Corinthians em dezembro de 2023. Desde então, o mandatário vem passando por uma série de turbulências no cargo. A maior delas foi no contrato com a antiga patrocinadora Vaidebet, hoje rompido, que virou alvo de investigação da Polícia Civil. Melo foi um dos quatro indiciados no inquérito. No caso dele, por acusações de furto qualificado por abuso de confiança, associação criminosa e lavagem de dinheiro.
Em entrevista coletiva na última terça-feira, o presidente corintiano se disse inocente:
— Não tenho envolvimento nenhum nisso. Confio na Justiça, eu mais do que ninguém, quero essa investigação. Me coloco à disposição de tudo. Faço questão que a Justiça busque os rastros de tudo e dê sequência. Não conheço essa empresa (UJ, empresa investigada no inquérito), não tenho envolvimento, não tenho acordo com empresa de jogador.

Two days after a preseason matchup between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Florida Panthers turned into a bloodbath, the NHL has handed down some consequences.
