Jetzt ist es offiziell! Der FC Augsburg hat einen echten Trainer-Deal gelandet!

Sandro Wagner (37) wird nach BILD-Informationen neuer Trainer des Erstligisten. Nach dem Rauswurf des Dänen Jess Thorup (55) im Mai ging FCA-Geschäftsführer Michael Ströll (40) bei Wagner „all in“. Über das Wochenende wurden zahlreiche Gespräche geführt, Wagner für die Aufgabe in Augsburg begeistert.

Am Mittwoch soll der Vertrag bis 2028 unterschrieben und der Deal perfekt gemacht werden!

Der Noch-Co-Trainer der Nationalmannschaft ist die absolute Wunschlösung der Augsburger. Er gilt als eine der heißesten Aktien auf dem Markt: Auch Wolfsburg war stark interessiert, zuvor erkundigten sich Vereine wie Leverkusen, Leipzig, Werder und Köln nach ihm. Auch aus England gab es Interesse.

Wagner war für Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann (37) extrem wichtig, hat einen engen Draht zur Mannschaft. „Sky“-Experte Didi Hamann (51) sagte über Wagner und ein mögliches FCA-Engagement bereits: „Sandro Wagner hat das Potenzial, in den nächsten drei, vier Jahren einer unserer besten Trainer zu werden. Er würde gut dorthin passen, es könnte heiß werden.“ Das wird es nun definitiv!

Bei der Wagner-Verpflichtung spielte der 8. Mai eine wichtige Rolle. An dem Tag sagte er seinem Ex-Klub Hoffenheim ab. Von da an beschäftigte sich der FC Augsburg intensiv mit dem Gedanken, Wagner zu holen.

[–>Zunächst musste aber die Saison-Analyse mit Thorup geführt werden. Der Däne hatte den FCA zwar stabilisiert, im Endspurt jedoch präsentierte sich Augsburg schwach. Die Punkteausbeute (Platz 18 in der Formtabelle der letzten acht Spiele) sowie die destruktive Spielweise sorgten dafür, dass man sich intern Gedanken über eine Veränderung machte. Thorup soll die Spielzeit dagegen deutlich positiver bewertet haben.

Wagner dachte intensiv über den FCA nach – und über seine Lebenssituation. Mit seiner Familie lebt er nur eine Stunde entfernt von Augsburg in Unterhaching. Dennoch will der Trainer nun nach Augsburg ziehen. Er sieht sich nach einer Wohnung in der Innenstadt um, will dort regelmäßig schlafen, damit er optimal seinen neuen Job ausfüllen und Augsburg zu neuen Erfolgen führen kann.

Die Verantwortlichen glauben, dass sie mit Wagner den nächsten Schritt in der sportlichen Entwicklung machen können: hin zu einer aktiveren, offensiven Spielweise. Vor allem soll Wagner von den Talenten im Kader, die bei Thorup zu wenig gefördert wurden, begeistert sein. Speziell Mittelfeld-Techniker Mert Kömür (19) und Verteidiger Noahkai Banks (18). Sie sollen eine wichtigere Rolle einnehmen. Wagner kann ihnen aus seiner eigenen Karriere viel mitgeben.

Klar ist: Mit dem Ex-Stürmer bekommt der FCA, sonst eine graue Maus der Liga, nun richtig viel Aufmerksamkeit. Für Augsburg ist die Verpflichtung ein echter Coup!
