Die Mission Titelverteidigung lebt!
Mit dem 34:23-Kantersieg in Erlangen hat der SC Magdeburg ein fettes Ausrufezeichen gesetzt. Zum ersten Mal in dieser Saison: Tabellenführer – zumindest für eine Nacht. Nur drei Spiele vor Schluss.
Nach dem Spiel erklärte SCM-Star Lukas Mertens (29) am Dyn-Mikrofon den Schlüssel zum Statement-Sieg: „Wir haben konsequent unseren Stiefel runtergespielt. Wir sind ins Tempospiel gegangen – egal, wie der Spielstand war. Wir wissen ja auch noch, dass das Torverhältnis vielleicht noch eine entscheidende Rolle spielen kann. Deswegen haben wir da noch einen draufgesetzt und versucht, Erlangen zu überlaufen. Das ist zum Schluss ganz gut gelungen.“
[–>Der SCM ließ keine Zweifel aufkommen – auch wenn Mertens kurz vor Schluss angeschlagen vom Feld musste. Auf der Bank kühlte er sich mit einem Ice-Pack am Nacken. Mertens: „Ich habe einen Schlag von Niko Link auf meinen Kiefer bekommen. Ich war nicht benommen, aber es tat in dem Moment echt weh. Er hat sich entschuldigt, und ich bin da rausgegangen. Es waren nur noch fünf Minuten und bei so was sollte man kein Risiko eingehen.“
Gerade jetzt darf nichts mehr schiefgehen – nach dem Ausfall von Urgestein Matthias Musche (32, Achillessehnenriss) ist Mertens DER Mann auf Linksaußen.
Was braucht der SCM in den letzten drei Spielen, um sich die Meisterschaft zu schnappen? „Wir müssen einfach das machen, was wir jeden Tag machen. Wir wissen um die Wichtigkeit der Spiele. Wenn wir eine gute Abwehr stellen, mit einem guten Sergey Hernández im Tor – dann ist das schon der Grundstein und dann bin ich auch guter Dinge, dass wir das schaffen“, meint Mertens.

Das Duell der zwei Titelkonkurrenten – Füchse Berlin gegen Melsungen – verfolgt er am Donnerstagabend (20 Uhr/Dyn) ausnahmsweise mal ohne Druck: „Von der Couch aus. Dadurch, dass wir jetzt ein Spiel Vorsprung haben, werde ich das jetzt entspannt mal von der Couch aus sehen. Jetzt war es die letzten Wochen und Monate immer so, dass wir hinten dran waren. Jetzt sind wir eine Nacht Tabellenführer. Das fühlt sich auch ganz gut an. Das erste Mal in der Saison. Ich bin gespannt, was da morgen passiert. Der Druck liegt bei denen.“
