Federação de boxe anuncia testes de gênero obrigatórios e veta Imane Khelif em torneios até a realização deles

A World Boxing, federação mundial de boxe responsável pelo programa olímpico e amador da modalidade, anunciou nesta sexta-feira a introdução de testes genéticos de gênero obrigatórios para seus atletas. A federação também vetou a participação da boxeadora argelina Imane Khelif, medalha de ouro nas Olimpíadas de Paris e vítima de polêmicas, em eventos da modalidade até que ela passe pela testagem.

Segundo a federação, os testes fazem parte de uma nova política de “sexo, idade e peso”, que entrará em vigor no dia 1º de julho e que foca em “garantir a segurança dos participantes e entregar um nível competitivo igual para homens e mulheres”

“A política está em fase final de desenvolvimento e foi elaborada por um grupo de trabalho do Comitê Médico e Antidoping do Boxe Mundial, que analisou dados e evidências médicas de uma grande variedade de fontes e consultou amplamente outros esportes e especialistas ao redor do mundo”, diz o comunicado.

A federação mundial diz ainda que enviou uma carta à federação argelina de boxe informando o veto a Khelif, que já não poderá participar da Copa de Boxe de Eindhoven (Holanda) enquanto não passar pela testagem. A instituição lembra as polêmicas dos Jogos de Paris-2024 e argumenta que a medida, motivada por “reações” sobre sua participação no evento na Holanda, visa à “segurança e bem-estar de todos os atletas, incluindo Khelif, e busca proteger a saúde mental e física de todos os participantes da Copa”.

O teste será feito pelas federações nacionais e envolverá atletas acima dos 18 anos, que passarão por um exame genético PCR (reação de polimerase em cadeira) para “determinar seu sexo no nascimento e sua elegibilidade para competir”. Ainda de acordo com a federação, o teste, realizado via swab nasal ou bucal, saliva ou amostra de sangue, buscará o gene SRY, que indica a presença do cromossomo Y.

Nas atletas em que for detectado tal cromossomo ou “diferença no desenvolvimento sexual (DSD) em que ocorre androgenização masculina”, a participação só será liberada na categoria masculina. Caso contrário, estará liberada a participação na categoria feminina. Haverá possibilidade de recurso e os resultados serão repassados para análises clínicas independentes para avaliações complementares no caso de uma atleta com cromossomo Y ou DSD com androgenização masculina que queira disputar a categoria feminina.

Imane Khelif foi vítima de polêmica e ataques em Paris ao disputar o torneio sob recusa de outra associação, a Associação Internacional de Boxe (IBA), em autorizá-la a disputar o Mundial de 2023. Segundo a entidade, que não apresentou os resultados dos testes de gênero, a argelina teria a combinação de cromossomos XY, masculina. A IBA havia sido desfiliada pelo Cômite Olímpico Internacional (COI) naquele mesmo 2023 por questões de governança. O comitê, por sua vez, autorizou a participação de Khelif nos Jogos.

Os ataques e discurso de ódio cresceram na estreia da argelina, quando a italiana Angela Carini abandonou a luta aos 46 segundos com dores no rosto. Mesmo sob ataques, Khelif avançou no torneio e garantiu o ouro na categoria meio-médio ao vencer a chinesa Yang Liu na final.
