Travis Hunter’s wife, Leanna Lenee, finds her best advocate in Cam Newton

Cameron Newton has rushed to the defense of Travis Hunter‘s wife after Leanna Lenee found herself under a lot of criticism from NFL fans, who slammed her as only dating the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ star for his money.

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner recently took a significant step in his personal life by marrying his longtime partner earlier this May in Tennessee, putting to bed lingering doubts they were going to break up.

To celebrate their union, the 22-year-old gifted his woman a lavish wedding present-a black Mercedes-Benz AMG G63, a vehicle estimated to cost more than $500,000.

Yet, despite the gesture, accusations directed at her still remain – particularly following their decision to forego a prenuptial agreement to protect the young NFL player’s assets.

Steelers Discuss Trade for Jonnu Smith with Dolphins

Accusations labeling her a “gold digger” have circulated widely online, and now Newton thinks it has gone too far as he praised her perseverance under public pressure.

“Congratulations to the Hunters,” Newton said on his Funky Friday show. “You know his wife, LL Cool J. She cool. She has been a punching bag, and it’s unfortunate.

“But guess what, baby, who’s laughing now? I’m so happy for Travis because this young man has done everything asked and then some.”

He further encouraged the couple to tune out detractors and remain focused on each other, reminding them that it’s more important to prove themselves right than to appease external critics.

His remarks shine a light on the disproportionate scrutiny women often face when in high-profile relationships, especially when wealth and fame are involved as bitter people accuse them of trying to fast-track their way to an easy life.

Ultimately, comments highlight a broader issue-how public perception can distort private relationships, especially when they unfold in the limelight, as well as the level of misogyny in professional sports.

Leanna Lenee returns to social media

Following the wedding, Leanna cautiously returned to social media. Having stepped away for several months to protect her mental health amid intense online trolling, her reappearance marked a symbolic reclaiming of her narrative.

She shared a photo from their wedding but disabled comments on the post, a clear attempt to shield her joy from further vitriol and a sad recognition of the hatred she faces for simply falling in love.

Now officially Mrs. Hunter, Leanna appears poised to support Travis as he transitions into the next phase of his career in the NFL, which begins when the Jaguars take on the Carolina Panthers on September 7.

The ex-Colorado Buffalo will bid to land a starter spot for the clash, which takes place at the EverBank Stadium in Florida. Kick-off is from 13:00 ET/10:00 PT.

The Jags aim to improve on their 4-13 record from the 2024/25 NFL season.

Continuity key as Invincibles target first Hundred threepeat

When analysing the wretched displays of Welsh Fire in the 2022 edition of The Hundred, Sky Sports Cricket pundit Nasser Hussain did not hold back."Not much Welsh and not much fire," was his take as the men's side lost all eight games and the women's five from six. They have a lot of Oval and an air of invincibility.Among the two-time defending champions' squad are a host of Surrey players who have an affinity with The Oval and the local area - Sam Curran, big brother Tom, Will Jacks, Gus Atkinson and, for this year after a spell with Northern Superchargers, Jordan Clark.
