Nebylo tomu tak ale vždycky. Před odchodem do zámoří totiž Kempný patřil ke stěžejním postavám brněnské Komety. Odešel do NHL, kde psal skvostnou kariéru, jejímž vrcholem byl zisk Stanley Cupu s Washingtonem.
Kariéra v zámoří ale kvůli zranění začala upadat a schyloval se návrat do Česka. Fanoušci Brna očekávali cestu zpět do modro-bílých barev, ale přišel šok – Kempný podepsal se Spartou. Sám hodonínský rodák přitom ještě ze zámoří tvrdil, že si neumí své působení v pražském S představit.
A právě tady se zrodila nenávist fans Komety. Kempného při každém příjezdu do Ronda a kontaktu s pukem čeká bučení a nelichotivý pokřik. Teď by se ale situace mohla zvrátit – reprezentační obránce má podle zákulisních informací o angažmá v Kometě velký zájem.
Pokud by Kempný aktuálního mistra extraligy opravdu posílil, jednalo by se o jednu z nejtřaskavějších situací na české scéně. Vždyť málokterý hráč je v nějakém klubu tak neoblíbený. A skalní fanoušci Komety už na sociálních sítí dávají jasně najevo, co si o případném příchodu čtyřiatřicetiletého beka na Moravu myslí.
Z čistě hokejového hlediska by ale byl Kempný pro brněnskou obranu velkou posilou. Ve čtyřiatřiceti letech má dostatek zkušeností a stále patří k jedním z nejlepších beků v tuzemské soutěži. Kempný je i reprezentační oporou, je majitelem bronzu z Tampere a mistrem světa z loňské Prahy. O letošní šampionát přišel až kvůli zranění v závěrečné fázi přípravy.
Každopádně to vypadá, že působení hodonínského rodáka v pražské Spartě je minulostí. Kempný má sice smlouvu ještě na rok, klub ale o jeho setrvání neprojevuje zájem. Pokud by nevyšla brněnská varianta, ve hře je pro Kempného i zahraniční angažmá.

Pražská Sparta ani letos neprolomila už osmnáctileté čekání na titul, když v semifinále vypadla právě s brněnskou Kometou. A po sezoně zahájila rozsáhlou obměnu kádru, v dresu Sparty skončili oba kapitáni Miroslav Forman zvažuje kladenskou nabídku a Vladimír Sobotka by měl posílit Pardubice. Do Dynama odešel i Ondřej Mikliš a do Litvínova zamířil Michal Moravčík.

Ben Shelton will not join fellow American Tommy Paul in the French Open quarterfinals after falling to No. 2 seed Carlos Alcaraz in four sets, 7-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
