Steve Sarkisian isn’t just preparing for life after Arch Manning-he’s trying to hold it together before it even begins.
The Longhorns thought they had locked in their next franchise QB when Dia Bell committed in June 2024. Bell, the standout junior from American Heritage (FL), brings size, swagger, and stats-2,597 passing yards, 29 touchdowns, and over 500 on the ground in 2023. But less than a year later, things are already getting complicated.

Bell may wear burnt orange on social media, but behind the scenes, it’s more complicated. He’s still talking to Ohio State. LSU. Oregon. “I take their calls,” Bell told On3 earlier this year. “In this game, things change fast.” That’s not exactly the reassurance Longhorns fans were hoping for.
Tom Loy of Horns247 recently noted that it’ll take a lot to flip Bell-but the Buckeyes are trying. And LSU’s not backing down, either. Oregon, a finalist before Bell’s Texas commitment, is still hanging around too. It’s clear: the commitment might be on paper, but the race isn’t over.

This Isn’t Just About One Player-It’s About the Future of Texas Football
Bell isn’t just a quarterback. He’s a recruiting magnet, a national brand, and a big reason why Texas feels relevant in the 2026 cycle. He’s already landed NIL deals with Gatorade and Leaf Trading Cards. He’s even recruiting for the Longhorns himself-publicly pushing for five-star OT Felix Ojo and keeping in touch with tight end Mark Bowman, a USC commit who’s visiting Texas on June 6.
That visit could change everything. Bowman, a 6’4″ All-American tight end out of Mater Dei, was nearly a Longhorn before choosing USC in May. Texas believes there’s still time to flip him-and if they do, the ripple effects could lock Bell in for good. Or, if they miss? It might send the wrong signal at the worst time.
The stakes are that high. Bell has options. He’s confident, healthy again after a late-season leg injury, and he’s watching how this Texas staff builds around him. Sarkisian has to prove the future he’s selling is real-and stable.
Because in 2025, quarterbacks aren’t just recruited once. You have to win them, over and over again.
