Right now, all eyes are on the Cleveland Browns’ camp due to the quarterback battle happening there, especially because one of the contenders is the highly publicized Shedeur Sanders. However, on a smaller scale but still in the Big Apple, a similar competition is taking place with the New York Giants.
Even though Head Coach Brian Daboll has stated that, for now, Russell Wilson is the starting quarterback-perhaps because the 10-time Pro Bowl selection received $10.5 million guaranteed-the team may not be fully committed to the former Pittsburgh Steelers player.

Furthermore, Daboll as head coach and Joe Schoen as general manager of the New York Giants are under pressure to keep their jobs. For that to happen, rookie Jaxson Dart must shine in his first year; otherwise, in 2026 we’ll be talking about the Giants starting over with a new project.
Wilson is fully committed to the Giants
There’s no doubt about Russell Wilson’s track record-he won a Super Bowl in 2014, coincidentally at MetLife Stadium, when the Seattle Seahawks crushed Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos. Wilson knows he’s joining a team that has struggled for over a decade; the Big Blue have been a dysfunctional organization.

Wilson appeared on an episode of 7PM in Brooklyn, hosted by NBA legend Carmelo Anthony.
“Winning cures everything. So that’s what we’re focused on: the process of winning, achieving it, succeeding, and staying focused on that process. It’s not just about the end result, although obviously winning is what matters. We can’t control that right now, but we can control how we do our work, our focus, and bringing a championship mindset and work ethic every day. And that’s the presence I always want to bring,” said Wilson.
On the same podcast, Wilson also spoke about how valuable it’s been to work with Head Coach Brian Daboll, who a few years ago led the Giants to the playoffs with Daniel Jones and earned Coach of the Year honors.
“I also really liked [Brian] Daboll. Obviously, I’ve watched him for years-he was Coach of the Year, I think two or three years ago-a brilliant mind. Spending time with him, actually, I came here last year before signing with Pittsburgh too, and I had a great appreciation for his football mind and how he sees the game.”
Russell Wilson will likely start the season as the Giants’ QB1, especially since they open against the Commanders, Cowboys, Chiefs, and Chargers. If they fail to win any of those games, we could see Jaxson Dart make his first start by Week 5.
