Gnade für den Handball-Schläger von Österreich!
Nach einem brutalen Foul in der heimischen Meisterschaft Anfang Mai (offener Nasenbeinbruch) wurde Ivan Horvat vom HC Hard für 26 Monate gesperrt. In unserem Nachbarland kochten die Emotionen hoch, dazu entwickelte sich eine Debatte über sportliche Fairness.

Jetzt darf Horvat aufatmen. Nach dem XXL-Urteil des österreichischen Handball-Verbandes hatte die von seinem Klub eingelegte Berufung Erfolg: Die Sperre wurde deutlich reduziert.
Der Verband meldet: „Die Sperre im Ausmaß von 26 Monaten und 11 Tagen wird auf 12 Monate und 6 Tage (sohin bis zum 30. April 2026) herabgesetzt, wovon sechs Monate bedingt auf zwei Jahre nachgesehen werden.“
Weiter heißt es: „Die unbedingte Sperre von Ivan Horvat endet daher am 31. Oktober 2025 – ab 1. November 2025 ist er in sämtlichen Bewerbsspielen des ÖHB wieder einsatzberechtigt.“
[–>Rückblick: Horvat hatte dem jungen Bregenzer Spielmacher Markus Mahr (24) im Viertelfinal-Derby um die österreichische Meisterschaft seine Hand brutal ins Gesicht gehauen. Schon der Anblick der Zeitlupenbilder tat weh. Das Blut spritzte aus der Wunde aufs Parkett.
Mahr, der im Sommer zum VfL Potsdam wechseln wird, erlitt einen offenen, mehrfachen Nasenbeinbruch und musste sich einer Not-OP unterziehen.
Nasen-Schläger-Zoff im Handball: Mega-Sperre für Ivan Horvat deutlich reduziert!
Sogar eine Sperre für maximal vier Jahre wegen grober Unsportlichkeit und bei schwerer Verletzung sahen die Regularien vor. Nun also nur ein halbes Jahr.
Laut Bestimmungen des Verbandes stehen weder Horvat noch Markus Mahr beziehungsweise deren Klubs „gegen die Entscheidung des Berufungsgerichts ordentliche Rechtsmittel zu“. Letztlich bleibt nur noch eine Option, gegen das aktuelle Strafmaß vorzugehen: das Anrufen eines verbandsinternen Schlichtungsorgans und des Schiedsgerichtes.
Der HC Hard hatte die Berufung unter anderem wie folgt begründet: „Wir sind der Ansicht, dass wir das nicht nur dem Spieler schuldig sind, sondern damit auch im Sinne des gesamten Handballsports handeln.“ Mit Erfolg.
Übrigens: Gut möglich, dass Horvat demnächst in Deutschland zu sehen sein wird. Drittligist TuS Vinnhorst ist an dem Kroaten interessiert (SPORT BILD berichtete).
