Toppmöller Dino
Als Dino Toppmöller (44) kurz vor Ende der Saison das Mannschaftstraining eigentlich schon beendet hatte, nahm sich der Eintracht-Trainer Stürmer Elye Wahi (22) zum individuellen Torschusstraining zur Seite. Zwischen den Abschlüssen holte der Coach Wahi immer wieder zu sich, gab ihm Tipps, wie er sich zum Ball stellen soll. Nach zehn Minuten klatschte Toppmöller ab und schickte ihn in den Feierabend.
Wahi ist Toppmöllers neuestes Projekt. Der Franzose kam im Winter als Nachfolger von Omar Marmoush (26/jetzt Manchester City) für 20 Mio. Euro Ablöse plus fünf Mio. Boni von Olympique Marseille, spielt seitdem aber keine Rolle. Seine Bilanz: null Tore und null Vorlagen in elf Spielen. In der neuen Saison soll Toppmöller ihn zum nächsten Stürmer-Star machen. Dass er Spieler entwickeln kann, hat der Trainer seit Beginn seiner Amtszeit im Sommer 2023 eindrucksvoll bewiesen. Seitdem sind die Marktwerte der Eintracht-Talente, die intern als „High Potential Player“ (Spieler mit großem Potenzial) bezeichnet werden, um 190,65 Mio. Euro gestiegen.

► So wie im Fall Wahi nimmt er sich die Spieler immer wieder zur Seite, arbeitet an Feinheiten. Sogar seine Kollegen im Trainerteam sind erstaunt, wie detailliert der frühere Zweitliga-Stürmer (u. a. Erzgebirge Aue) auf die Stars eingeht. So erklärte Toppmöller Marmoush, dass er mehr mit der Innenseite statt mit dem Vollspann schießen sollte. Schon als Co-Trainer von Julian Nagelsmann (37) beim FC Bayern nahm sich Toppmöller Jamal Musiala (22) zur Seite, trainierte mit ihm Torschüsse.
► Toppmöller arbeitet mit personalisierten Video-Sitzungen. Anhand von einzelnen Szenen erklärte er Angreifer Hugo Ekitiké (22), dass er häufig noch zu eigensinnig sei. Toppmöller strahlt dabei Autorität aus, ist gleichzeitig aber auch ein Kumpel-Typ. Das kommt bei den Spielern gut an.

► Toppmöller bleibt geduldig, auch wenn es mal nicht läuft. Beispiel: Nathaniel Brown (21). Der Sommer-Zugang aus Nürnberg spielte die ersten sieben Liga-Partien keine Minute. Toppmöller erklärte ihm, dass er sich taktisch weiterentwickeln muss. Zudem erwartete er von ihm, dass er mehr Muskelmasse aufbaut. Brown lieferte, baute drei Kilo allein in den letzten Wochen auf. Dazu entwickelte er seine Qualitäten im Verteidigen rasant, macht mittlerweile taktisch das, was Toppmöller erwartet.
► Toppmöller gibt den Spielern Selbstvertrauen. Beispiel: Jean-Mattéo Bahoya (20). Zu Beginn der Saison stand der Linksaußen häufig nicht im Kader. In der Rückrunde rutschte er durch den Systemwechsel von 4-4-2 auf 4-2-3-1 in die Marmoush-Lücke. Toppmöller arbeitete mit ihm an seinem Ego, sprach ihm nach schlechten Leistungen Mut zu. Das erwartet der Trainer auch von seinen Co-Trainern. Am Anfang der Saison hatte er das bei ihnen sogar extra mehrmals angesprochen.
Die Belohnung für Toppmöllers Arbeit: Der Klub verlängerte seinen bis 2026 gültigen Vertrag kurz vor Saisonende vorzeitig bis 2028. In Zukunft verdient der Trainer inklusive Boni mehr als drei Millionen Euro. Zuvor lag sein Gehalt noch bei 1,5 Mio. Euro. Gut angelegtes Geld, wie es scheint.
