Another battle is brewing within the Cleveland Browns. While Shedeur Sanders and company fight for the starting quarterback position, in the running back department, it seems the players tasked with carrying the ball on the ground are already taking shape.

Nick Chubb will no longer be with the team, and it appears another player may be sacrificed as the running plays seem limited.
A Tough Decision for the Cleveland Browns
In recent years, Pierre Strong Jr. has been on the periphery of the Browns’ running back group, and the only reason he remained on the team is due to his untapped potential.
The Browns selected two running backs in the NFL Draft 2025, so Pierre Strong Jr.’s days with the team are numbered, at least according to Matt Wilson from the outlet Dawgs By Nature.
“Quinshon Judkins, Dylan Sampson, and Jerome Ford seem to be the most logical options at the running back position, with Pierre Strong trying to earn a spot,” wrote Wilson. “From a financial perspective, Ford recently accepted a pay cut to stay with the team, and releasing Strong would free up $1.1 million in salary cap space.”
The running back position has regained importance in recent NFL seasons with the breakout performances of Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry, so in addition to deciding who will take the reins as the quarterback calling plays, this decision is also critical.
The running plays will be distributed among Jerome Ford, Quinshon Judkins, and Dylan Sampson, especially after there was little interest in re-signing veteran Nick Chubb.
Logic would suggest cutting 26-year-old running back Pierre Strong, who played college football at the University of South Dakota and was originally selected by the New England Patriots in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
These are pivotal decisions for the Browns franchise, as while Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett may be the favorites to start in Week 1, Shedeur Sanders or Dillon Gabriel appear destined to take over in the future. A similar situation applies to Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson, formerly of Ohio State and Tennessee, respectively, in the running back battle.
