Auf einmal stand Florian Wirtz wieder in Brauweiler auf dem Trainingsplatz. Vergangenen Donnerstag traf sich der Weltstar mit Privattrainer Cagdas Sahinoglu (Soccer-Academy-Germany) in seinem Heimatort. Er war früher aus dem Urlaub zurückgekehrt, um vor der Abreise am Freitag zur Nationalmannschaft nach Herzogenaurach noch eine Extra-Schicht einzulegen.
Der Rekord-Wechsel zum FC Liverpool (Ablöse zwischen 135 und 150 Mio. Euro) verändert den Spielmacher nicht. Er motiviert ihn nach fünfeinhalb Jahren in Leverkusen mit der Meisterschaft und dem Pokalsieg 2024 als Höhepunkt eher noch mehr.
[–>Wirtz hat eine rein sportliche Entscheidung getroffen – für den englischen Meister und Trainer Arne Slot (46), der ihn am meisten gepackt hat. Nicht gegen eines der vielen anderen Top-Angebote (u. a. FC Bayern, Manchester City). Das Geld spielte eine untergeordnete Rolle. Sonst wäre er womöglich woanders gelandet.
Auch Liverpool zahlt fürstlich. Aber weniger, als in München für Wirtz drin gewesen wäre. Nach Informationen von SPORT BILD soll er bei den „Reds“ auch nicht zum Top-Verdiener aufsteigen. Das bleibt Mo Salah (32), der gerade bis 2027 verlängert hat und zwischen 23 und 25 Millionen Euro inklusive Prämien pro Saison kassieren soll. Dahinter folgt in Zukunft Wirtz. Sein Gehalt soll je nach Erfolg zwischen 20 und 22 Millionen Euro pro Jahr liegen.

„Ich beschäftige mich auch gar nicht damit, wie viel Geld ich auf dem Konto habe oder was ich in Zukunft verdienen könnte“, hatte Wirtz in einem Interview mit „Sports Illustrated“ erklärt, das im April geführt worden war. „Natürlich sollte man sich darum kümmern, dass man einen guten Vertrag bekommt. Aber da ist die sportliche Perspektive für mich viel entscheidender als das Geld.“
Genau danach hat der Spielmacher der Nationalmannschaft, der die DFB-Elf in der Nations League jetzt zum Sieg führen soll, gehandelt. Slot hatte ihn von seinem Konzept mit dem deutschen Top-Star im Zentrum der Offensive derart überzeugt, dass ihn Bayern-Trainer Vincent Kompany (39) in seinem Vieraugengespräch am 18. Mai in München gar nicht mehr erreichen konnte.
Slot hatte die Erlaubnis für Gespräche mit seinem Wunschspieler bereits im März von Bayer Leverkusen erhalten. Der FC Bayern beschäftigte sich zu dem Zeitpunkt vor allem mit Papa und Berater Hans Wirtz, der zu einem Wechsel innerhalb der Bundesliga tendiert hatte. Beim Rekordmeister hatten sie womöglich unterschätzt, dass Florian Wirtz seine Entscheidung eigenständig trifft.

Die „Reds“ machen Wirtz zum teuersten Einkauf der englischen Fußball-Geschichte. Bisher steht der Argentinier Enzo Fernández (24) auf Platz eins des Kohle-Rankings. Chelsea holte den Weltmeister Anfang 2023 für die festgeschriebene Ablöse von 121 Millionen Euro von Benfica Lissabon. Wirtz wird inklusive Bonus-Zahlungen bei über 135 Millionen Euro liegen.
Das ist gleichzeitig die höchste Summe, die jemals für einen deutschen Spieler – und auch für einen Bundesliga-Star – bezahlt wurde. Der Deutsche mit dem bisher höchsten Preis ist Kai Havertz (25) bei seinem Wechsel 2020 von Leverkusen zu Chelsea (100 Mio. inkl. Boni). Der teuerste Bundesliga-Spieler vor Wirtz war der Franzose Ousmane Dembélé (28). Der ging 2017 für 135 Mio. inkl. der Nachschläge von Borussia Dortmund zum FC Barcelona.
