No ha jugado ni un solo minuto esta temporada no lo haráen la final de la NBA, y ni siquiera es conocido para el gran público. De hecho, podría pasear hoy antes del partido por los aledaños del Paycom Center de Oklahoma vestido de paisano y pasaría desapercibido, pero puede convertirse en el tercer jugador más joven de la liga en conquistar el anillo de campeón. Es el caso de Nikola Topic, base serbio de los Thunder de 1,98 m y 19 años, que no cumplirá los 20 hasta el 10 de agosto.

A día de hoy, fecha en la que comienzan las Finales de la NBA, Topic tiene 19 años y 292 días. Y considerando que éstas terminarán como muy tarde el 22 de junio si la serie por el título llega al séptimo partido, en caso de conquistar el campeonato los Thunder el serbio sería el tercero más joven de la historia en lograrlo, superando a Talen Horton-Tucker, escolta estadounidense de 1,93 m que lo conquistó con los Lakers en 2020 con 19 años y 321 días.
Milicic y Kuminga, los campeones más jóvenes
Los dos jugadores que ganaron el anillo con menos edad fueron Darko Milicic y Jonathan Kuminga. El primero, pívot serbio de 2,13 m, lo conquistó en 2004 con Detroit Pistons (que le eligieron con el nº2 del draft, sólo por detrás de LeBron James) cuando tenía solo 18 años y 361 días. Y el segundo, alero congoleño de 2,01 m, ganó el campeonato con los Golden State Warriors en 2022 cuando tenía 19 años y 253 días.

El récord que batirá seguro Nikola Topic en caso que los de Oklahoma conquisten el título será el de ser el más joven de la historia que lo hace sin haber jugado un solo partido en toda la temporada. Y no porque su entrenador, Mark Daigneault, no hay confiado en él. Si no porque tras haber sido elegido por los Thunder con el nº12 en el draft de 2024 sufrió una rotura parcial del ligamento cruzado anterior de su rodilla izquierda (LCA) que le obligó a pasar por el quirófano y a decir adiós a la temporada.
Trayectoria deportiva
Topic comenzó a jugar al baloncesto en el KK Defense de Novi Sad, su ciudad natal, hasta que en junio de 2020 fue reclutado por la cantera del Estrella Roja, con el que debutó en la ABA con 16 años, llegando a debutar en la Euroliga con 16 años y 253 días.
En 2023 firmó su primer contrato profesional y fue cedido al KK MEGA Basket, donde promedió 18,6 puntos, 6,9 asistencias y 3,7 rebotes en 13 partidos. Y en 2024 ganó el premio Top Prospect de la Liga ABA tras promediar 17,9 puntos, 6,8 asistencias y 3,6 rebotes.

El serbio, que esta temporada ha ganado 4,9 millones de dólares en los Thunder, tiene contrato garantizado para la campaña 25-26 por 5,1 millones, y la franquicia tiene la opción de extendérselo para las campañas 26-27 (5,4) y 27-28 (7,4). Y, si sigue ligado al equipo hasta entonces, tendría para la 28-29 una oferta cualificada (Qualifying Offer) de 11 millones.
