The 2025 NFL season hasn’t even started, and the New York Giants are already fraying. With organized team activities (OTAs) in full swing, players are practicing without padding or contact; however, this afternoon, the intensity went too far, leading to a pitched battle.
2025 is head coach Brian Daboll’s fourth season at the helm of the Giants. Last year, the team finished with a 3-14 record, making it obvious the need for serious adjustments for next season. The challenge won’t be easy, as the schedule won’t help Big Blue.
However, the OTAs revealed that if there’s one thing the Giants have in abundance, it’s intensity. On Thursday, two fights broke out during practice. The first involved only linebacker Brian Burns and left tackle James Hudson III, but the second was a full-throttle battle that emptied the sidelines.
Tempers flare in East Rutherford
Various media reports claim that tensions began when Burns and Hudson exchanged words, with the arguments escalating to shoving until their teammates separated them. Coaches immediately sent them to opposite sides of the field.
However, a play later, linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux and tackle Jermaine Eluemunor also got into an argument. Thibodeaux threw a punch at Eluemunor, which led to a full-throttle battle in which Hudson and Burns immediately became entangled.
“Brian Burns just sprinted in from the sideline,” reported SNY’s Connor Hughes. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the insider narrated that Burns “tackled Hudson to the ground in a fight. Kayvon Thibodeaux threw some punches, too. Tensions started [the] play earlier. Almost went down there. Hudson and Burns separated. After the next play-through, things really broke out.”
What has the team said?
Daboll ended practice immediately, but neither he nor the team has issued a statement. Some reports claim that quarterback Russell Wilson downplayed the fight, saying it’s all part of the competition.
Fans took the news with humor, but there’s no doubt that if the fractures extend into the regular season, which begins in three months, they could cost Daboll his job and end in another disappointing season for fans and the team.
