Bei der EM sind seine Gedanken aktuell sicher nicht.

Isaiah Hartenstein (27) steht mit den Oklahoma City Thunder in der Finalserie der NBA. Trifft dort ab Freitag (2.30 Uhr/DAZN live) auf die Indiana Pacers.

Und doch spielt der 2,13-Meter-Mann in den Plänen von Bundestrainer Alex Mumbru (45) eine große Rolle. Der Spanier setzt für die Europameisterschaft in Lettland, Finnland, Zypern und Polen (27. August bis 14. September) auf Hartenstein.

[–>Mumbru zu BILD: „Ich will, dass er dabei ist. Das weiß er auch. Ich habe ihn schon in den USA besucht, wir sprechen häufig miteinander. Aber er wird sich erst entscheiden, wenn die Saison vorbei ist. Sie war ja sehr lang für ihn.“

57 Spiele stand der Center in der regulären Saison auf dem Parkett, kam dabei auf einen Schnitt 11,2 Punkte und 10,7 Rebounds pro Partie. Dazu kommen bisher noch 16 Auftritte in den Play-offs (9,2 Punkte, 7,9 Rebounds).

Hartenstein hat bereits 19 Spiele für die deutsche Basketball-Nationalmannschaft absolviert, das letzte allerdings schon im Februar 2018. Im DBB-Trikot bringt er es auf 4,1 Punkte im Schnitt pro Partie.

Unter Bundestrainer Gordon Herbert (66/jetzt Bayern) war Hartenstein nicht berücksichtigt worden. Der frühere BBL-Profi wollte sich nicht festlegen, jeden Sommer für Deutschland zu spielen.

Ohne ihn holte die Nationalmannschaft bei der letzten EM 2022 in Berlin Bronze. Und wurde ein Jahr später in Manila/Philippinen Weltmeister. 2024 landete die Mannschaft bei Olympia in Paris auf Platz 4.

Zu einer möglichen Berufung hatte Hartenstein in Januar im BILD-Interview gesagt: „Ich will auf jeden Fall wieder für die Nationalmannschaft spielen und etwas an Deutschland zurückgeben – vielleicht sogar einen Titel holen. Wenn sich mein Körper nach der langen Saison gut anfühlt, möchte ich im Sommer spielen.“

Wie der Kader für die EM aussieht, ist aktuell offen. Superstars wie Franz Wagner (23/Orlando) haben ihre endgültige Entscheidung noch nicht bekanntgegeben. Sicher ist, dass sein Bruder Moritz (28/Orlando) wegen einer Knieverletzung nicht teilnehmen wird.
