O Botafogo finalmente se acertou com o Benfica para fechar a contratação do centroavante Arthur Cabral, de 27 anos. Após semanas de negociações com o time português, o valor da transferência ficou combinado em 15 milhões de euros (R$ 95 milhões). O atleta já chega para disputar a Copa do Mundo de Clubes com o Glorioso, que vai encarar times como PSG e Atlético de Madrid.
A informação primeiramente veio do jornalista italiano Nicolò Schira, que confirmou o interesse do Botafogo em Arthur Cabral. O atleta é muito famoso na Itália por jogar duas temporadas na Fiorentina antes de ir para o Benfica. Nesta sexta-feira (6), o Ge confirmou o acerto entre as partes e o centroavante está em vias de ser anunciado pelo time carioca.
No entanto, para que Arthur Cabral aceitasse se transferir para o Botafogo, John Textor teve que usar um ‘truque na manga’. Assim como fez com Thiago Almada em 2024, o dono da SAF do Glorioso prometeu ao centroavante que ele vai retornar para a Europa, como uma espécie de garantia. Assim, é certo que após um ano no Fogão o camisa 9 vai para o time francês, que também pertence a Textor. Tempo maior do que no caso de Almada, que permaneceu apenas por seis meses.
Contratação para suprir saída importante
Antes da Copa do Mundo de Clubes, o Botafogo sofreu um grande golpe no mercado da bola. O Nottingham Forest comprou o camisa 9 do Glorioso, Igor Jesus, por R$ 130 milhões, deixando o time sem um centroavante de confiança. Assim, o time foi ao mercado atrás de uma substituição à altura, e o nome de Arthur Cabral foi amplamente elogiado internamente.
Portanto, o Botafogo fica com um lucro de cerca de R$ 40 milhões, já que a transferência de Arthur Cabral vai custar R$ 95 milhões aos cofres do clube. O camisa 9 chega para ajudar o time de Renato Paiva nas competições do segundo semestre como a Copa do Mundo de Clubes, Brasileirão, Copa do Brasil e Libertadores (onde o time busca o bi-campeonato).
Temporada de críticas a Arthur Cabral no Benfica
A última temporada de Arthur Cabral no Botafogo foi especialmente desafiadora, com o centroavante sofrendo muito com as críticas. O jogador disputou 34 partidas no time de Bruno Lage (ex-técnico do Fogão) e marcou apenas 7 gols e 2 assistências. Números insuficientes para um jogador da posição mais importante do ataque, e que fez ele perder espaço no time. Logo ele foi para o banco de reservas em detrimento de Vangelis Pavlidis.
A temporada anterior não foi muito melhor que esta, já que em 43 partidas Arthur Cabral marcou apenas 11 gols. Diferente da sua passagem na Itália, onde deixou 17 gols no último ano na Fiorentina, levando o clube até a final da Conference League. No Brasil, o atacante se destacou no Palmeiras em 2018, sendo campeão brasileiro e entregando 27 gols antes de se transferir para o Basel em 2019.
