Dallas Wings rookie sensation Paige Bueckers is finally poised for her highly anticipated comeback! After missing the last three games due to concussion protocol, the team announced on Saturday that Bueckers has been cleared.
This is a monumental step forward for the star, who was a non-contact participant in Thursday’s practice and showed promising signs amid Friday’s 93-79 loss to the Sparks.
However, fans eager to see her back on the court will have to hold their breath a little longer, as she’s currently listed as probable for Sunday afternoon’s game against the Minnesota Lynx due to an illness.
Facing a juggernaut
The Wings desperately need their No. 1 pick back. Dallas currently holds a dismal 1-8 record, having dropped four consecutive contests heading into Sunday’s matchup.
Their opponent, the Lynx, are an intimidating force, boasting a perfect 8-0 record. Bueckers’ presence would undoubtedly provide a much-needed spark and significantly boost the Wings’ chances of pulling off a shocking upset.
Even with Bueckers’ potential return, the Wings will be facing an uphill battle due to significant roster limitations. Tyasha Harris has been officially ruled out for Sunday’s game due to a left knee injury, and the team has provided scant updates on her condition.
Roster woes deepen for Dallas
To further complicate matters, center Teaira McCowan will be unavailable as she prepares to join Turkey for EuroBasket. As if losing McCowan wasn’t enough, fellow center Luisa Geiselsoder is also set to depart on June 14 to play for Germany in EuroBasket.
The absence of both McCowan and Geiselsoder leaves the Wings severely depleted in the post, forcing them to rely heavily on Myisha Hines-Allen as a starter. It’s clear that Dallas will need to prioritize adding much-needed depth at the center position.
For now, all eyes remain on Paige Bueckers. Her probable status is a promising sign, but the lingering illness means fans will be anxiously awaiting final confirmation of her return to action.
