Hamburg plant, sich für die Olympischen Spiele zu bewerben! Im Interview erklärt Innen- und Sportsenator Andy Grote (56/SPD), warum die Hansestadt die richtige Wahl für eine deutsche Bewerbung wäre.
SPORT BILD: Herr Grote, angenommen, Sie treffen im Fahrstuhl ein hochrangiges Mitglied des Internationalen Olympischen Komitees und haben 30 Sekunden, um zu begründen, warum Hamburg die Olympischen Spiele ausrichten soll. Was sagen Sie? Die Zeit läuft …
Andy Grote (56): Die Spiele fügen sich fantastisch in die bestehende Stadt ein. Internationale Festivalstimmung in zwei olympischen Parks, die die schon vorhandenen und einige temporären Sportstätten verbinden. Nirgendwo werden die Wege so kurz sein wie in Hamburg. Wir sind die Stadt, die am glaubwürdigsten antreten kann, Sport und Bewegung ganz neu in unser aller Alltag zu verankern.
Mit der Ankündigung, dass Hamburg die „modernste Arena Deutschlands“ bekommen wird, haben Sie einen Überraschungscoup gelandet. Dieses „Olympiastadion“ neben dem Volksparkstadion muss aber komplett neu gebaut werden, ist also weder vorhanden noch temporär.
Ja, aber das würden wir bis dahin ohnehin neu bauen. Das Volksparkstadion ist in die Jahre gekommen, und ein weiterer Betrieb aufgrund der enormen Instandhaltungskosten irgendwann nicht mehr sinnvoll. Im neuen Stadion sollen dann die Leichtathletik-Wettbewerbe stattfinden. Nach den Olympischen und Paralympischen Spielen soll dieses Stadion als hochmoderne Multifunktionsarena und auch für den Profisport sowie als Stadion „für alle“ genutzt werden. Wir haben im Gespräch mit dem HSV eine gemeinsame Perspektive auf das Projekt entwickelt. Wir bauen dieses Stadion also unabhängig davon, ob unsere Bewerbung Bestand haben wird. Auch ein Champions-League-Finale kann dann hier stattfinden.

Wird es in Hamburg eine Befragung geben, ob die Bürger überhaupt Olympia wollen?
Ja, wir werden ein Referendum durchführen. Die Hamburgerinnen und Hamburger müssen dieses Projekt unterstützen. Im nächsten Jahr im Mai wird darüber abgestimmt. Wir wollen bis dahin intensiv in den Dialog gehen und auch möglichst viele Kritiker überzeugen. Olympia ist ein großes Zukunftsprojekt, von dem alle profitieren würden.
2015 gab es eine knappe Mehrheit gegen die damalige Bewerbung. Was stimmt Sie optimistisch, dass die Hamburger diesmal anders entscheiden?
Wir haben das klare Bekenntnis der Bundesregierung, auch für finanzielle Unterstützung. Wir werden unser Konzept viel stärker auf einen nachhaltigen Mehrwert für die Hamburgerinnen und Hamburger ausrichten, bei gleichzeitig geringeren Belastungen. Wir wollen dafür sorgen, dass Hamburg nach den Spielen eine bessere Stadt ist.
Berlins Regierender Bürgermeister Kai Wegner sagte bei der Präsentation des Hauptstadtkonzepts: „Ohne Berlin wird’s schwieriger für eine deutsche Bewerbung.“
Warum sollte es so sein? Das hat Berlin 2015 auch gedacht.
Im vergangenen Jahr sagten Sie uns im Hinblick auf eine Olympiabewerbung, dass Hamburg und Berlin ein „starkes Tandem“ bilden könnten. Warum kam es nicht zur gemeinsamen Bewerbung?
Berlin wollte das nicht. Berlin wollte Spiele, die stark auf Berlin konzentriert sind, mit sehr vielen Satelliten. Einer davon wäre Hamburg gewesen. Das war für uns nicht attraktiv.
[–>Für welches Jahr will sich Hamburg konkret bewerben?
Gedanklich fokussieren wir uns alle auf die Spiele 2040. Das wäre für uns ein sehr gutes Datum. Am Ende würden wir den Slot nehmen, der international für Europa als nächster offen ist.
2040 wären Sie 72 Jahre alt und mutmaßlich nicht mehr Senator für Inneres und Sport …
Das wünsche ich mir nicht, dann noch im Amt zu sein.
Was ist Ihr persönlicher, großer Olympia-Traum für 2040? Mit Bratwurst und Bier im neuen Hamburger Olympiastadion das 100-Meter-Finale zu schauen?
Mein Traum wäre: beim 3×3-Basketball zuzuschauen – und mein Sohn spielt im deutschen Team.
