One Sunday many years ago, or not so long ago, NBA fans enjoyed 2K for the first time, a video game that has marked the adolescence and childhood of many people. At that time, a lot of possibilities opened up, even more so if your first experience was relatively recently. And it is that the fans of NBA 2K have been able to put themselves, from their chair or their sofa, in the shoes of some of the athletes they have most admired in their lives, they have been able to manage the best teams in history and have been able to create themselves to develop their own career from nothing to the ‘hall of fame’.
The history of this video game is so extensive that both veterans and novices have been able to enjoy it in their time, although each year this title offers us the possibility of ‘going back to the past’ and enjoying the players of the teams of the 70s, 80s, 90s… In addition, as with all simulators of this style in all sports, 2K also serves us on many occasions to see a reflection of reality, since the averages of the players and the attributes are not put just because, they have a basis on what happens every day in the pavilions of the most relevant basketball league on the planet.

The first appearances of NBA stars in 2K
That’s why today we wanted to ‘travel back in time’ taking advantage of the fact that, in a few days, a new star of the league is going to be crowned with his first ring, Shai or Haliburton. We have gone back to the games of recent years, in some cases older than others, especially because of LeBron, to compare the first ratings of today’s NBA stars with the first they had when they arrived in the league and the video game.
This, in addition to being a spectacular nostalgic exercise, allows us to remember or realize the expectations that each player had before playing their first game in the NBA and compare them with what they have finally been in this competition. To do this, we visited the database of this year’s game, NBA 2K25, and selected the 15 stars with the highest rating and looked for their first appearance in the game and this was the result.

Jokic and Giannis, two stars under the radar
Looking at this list, there is something that surprises us especially apart from the impression we get from seeing that LeBron James’ first rating in NBA 2K was in the four, which reminds us of the milestone that the forward is achieving. We are talking about the fact that two of the three players with a higher average this year (98), are also two of the three players who, in their first appearance had a lower rating along with Curry (69).
These are Giannis Antetokounmpo and Nikola Jokic, who today have MVPs, rings and numerous trophies in their trophy cabinets. The Serbian arrived at 2K in 2016 with a paltry 68 rating, incentivized, of course, by that 41st draft pick that will go down in the league’s history books. The Greek, for his part, arrived in 2014 with a 69 rating that was more in keeping with that thin, young European who was chosen 15th in the draft.
