Teams in the NFL want to avoid distractions as much as possible. That’s why players lower on the totem pole get released as soon as something that could hurt the team’s image happens. It becomes more difficult to deal with when a star player does it. Enter Stefon Diggs and the New England Patriots.
A little over a week ago, a video of Diggs at a boat party alongside girlfriend Cardi B and other women went viral. In it, Diggs was handing out a powdered substance that many believe was “Tusi” or “pink cocaine”. That obviously didn’t sit right with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, who is a football-first guy. There were rumors that the Patriots could potentially cut Diggs and cut their losses. For now, that’s not happening, at least if Vrabel’s recent comments are to be taken at face value.

Mike Vrabel praises Stefon Diggs after yacht party drama
While Vrabel is generally considered a player-friendly head coach, he’s strict about certain things. This Diggs debacle was a litmus test for how Vrabel will deal with off-field distractions. Some teams may have just cut ties with Diggs, but Vrabel and the Patriots have swept all of that under the rug.
Vrabel spoke with the media after Patriots practice on Monday. When asked about Diggs, the head coach had nothing but good things to say about his player, as the team is looking forward into the future.
Vrabel focused his comments on Digg’s recovery from a torn ACL that cut his 2024 season short. With Vrabel and Diggs focusing on football only going forward, the team needs Diggs to get back to full health as quickly as possible.
It won’t be easy at 31 years old and coming off of a major injury, but New England needs Diggs to be the No. 1 wideout and a trusted pair of hands for second-year QB Drake Maye.
