Im Januar 2024 verpflichtete der FC Barcelona Vitor Roque (20) für 30 Millionen Euro von Athletico Paranaense. Ein Wunsch des damaligen Trainers der Katalanen Xavi (45). Gegenüber „Globesport“ sprach Barça-Boss Deco (47) jetzt über den Transfer – und tritt dabei ordentlich nach.
[–>Deco über den Roque-Transfer: „Er (Xavi), bat darum, dass Roque schon im Winter kommt. Wir ziehen die Meinung des Trainers bei solchen Entscheidungen natürlich immer heran, aber wir hätten es besser erst im Sommer gemacht. Es war ein Fehler.“
Und weiter: „Seine ersten sechs Monate waren nicht gut. Ich glaube, dass der Verein und der Trainerstab Probleme damit hatten, zu erkennen, mit welchen Schwierigkeiten er zu kämpfen hatte, ob nun in Sachen Anpassung oder im mentalen Bereich. Wir konnten ihm nicht so helfen, wie wir es gerne getan hätten.“

Er kam nie richtig an: Roque hätte der Nachfolger von Robert Lewandowski (36) werden sollen. Doch die Fußstapfen waren zu groß für den Brasilianer. Da er es nicht schaffte, sich an den europäischen Fußball anzupassen, bekam er wenig Einsatzzeit. Nur 16 Mal stand er für die Katalanen auf dem Platz und konnte nur zwei Treffer erzielen.
Nach einem halben Jahr war Schluss. Im Sommer 2024 wurde Xavi von Hansi Flick (60) abgelöst. Roque an Betis Sevilla ausgeliehen. Im Februar dann die Rückkehr nach Brasilien – Palmerias zahlte immerhin 25,5 Millionen Euro für ihn.

Immerhin: Der finanzielle Verlust bei den Blaugrana hielt sich dadurch in Grenzen. Aber: Hätte man sich an den ursprünglichen Plan gehalten, wäre Roque wahrscheinlich nie verpflichtet worden. Geplant war der Transfer ursprünglich erst für den Sommer 2024. Da wäre Xavi schon nicht mehr da gewesen und Deco hätte ihm den Wunsch nicht mehr erfüllen müssen.
Auch bei Palmeiras überzeugt Roque bislang nicht: in 19 Spielen traf er lediglich dreimal.
