During a sporting career it is very tempting to have offers that prioritise financial over sporting considerations. While there are multi-million dollar contracts in baseball, there are still other leagues looking to attract new players and this creates a great debate. Max Muncy is one of the Dodgers’ great figures and recently made a surprising confession about his continuity in MLB.
Muncy has become one of the Dodgers‘ mainstays, his performance on the field has made him a reference and he is loved by the fans. He currently has a $24 million contract with two years remaining, so he is now very comfortable, but a year ago he was close to making a drastic decision.

In an interview with journalist Jack Harris for the Los Angeles Times, Max Muncy confessed that in 2024 after a serious injury he thought about retirement and even received an offer to play in the Korean Baseball League (KBO), something he thought about a lot, but his desire to continue competing and to achieve things with the Dodgers was stronger, so he preferred to continue in MLB and does not regret it at all.
It’s an honor and a blessing to show up every day and put on Dodger blue
His decision seemed to be the right one, as in 2024 he won the World Series with the Dodgers, signed a very good contract and is one of the best players on his team today. There are decisions that can change the course of a lifetime or, in this case, a professional career, but Muncy seems to have done the right thing and so far, he seems to be on the right track.
A key player for the Dodgers
Muncy’s numbers have been very good since he made the decision to continue despite the serious injury that kept him out of the game for several months. Currently, the player has hit nine home runs and 35 RBIs in 63 games. He also has an on-base percentage of .257 and last season was a champion with his team.
Muncy is in good form, but he knows he can continue to improve. The 34-year-old wants to continue competing at the highest level and to do so he knows he must be 100% physically fit, something that has been more difficult for him due to injuries.
“When you’re in the third month of not playing and nothing is getting better, you start to have thoughts in your head. Like, ‘Is my body telling me I can’t do this anymore?’ That was hard for me,” he confessed in the interview regarding the complications he has had this season.
A commitment to the Dodgers
In the interview, Muncy also addressed the options he has had and the rumors about leaving the team. In addition to the 2024 offer, he has had others, but the player was clear when signing a commitment with his team and is happy with the place he occupies.
“Look, you can’t control rumors, you can’t control anything. It’s an honor and a blessing to show up every day and put on the Dodger blue… I’m going to give it my all until I’m told I can’t do that anymore. And at the end of the day, that’s all I can control.”
