All the spotlight in the Cleveland Browns’ preseason has undoubtedly been on Shedeur Sanders-and for good reason. He’s a player who shined at the University of Colorado, and his entire career has been highly publicized, especially because of who his father is: NFL legend Deion Sanders.
Shedeur Sanders makes a ‘Patrick Mahomes’ escape during training when facing defensive pressure
The quarterback situation has been a polarizing topic at the Cleveland Browns training camp. Every move is being watched closely-everything Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Shedeur Sanders do is under the microscope.
In Dillon Gabriel’s case, he’s a quarterback who had a great year with the Oregon Ducks, even playing in the Rose Bowl against Ohio State. He was drafted in the third round by the Cleveland Browns, but many analysts believe he wasn’t thrilled that two rounds later the team also selected Shedeur Sanders.
Dillon Gabriel’s big throw
Gabriel has no choice but to compete with two quarterbacks who were once first-round picks-Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett-as well as Shedeur Sanders, who was drafted in the fifth round but had been projected as a potential first-rounder. On top of that, he has to deal with the media pressure that will constantly push for Sanders to get opportunities.
For now, Dillon Gabriel has been performing very well at Browns training camp. The team has frequently posted clips on social media of his high-quality throws-one standout was the bullet he fired to tight end Blake Whiteheart.
All Gabriel can do now is keep competing, something he’s no stranger to. During his college career, he played for three programs: UCF, Oklahoma, and Oregon. He was selected in the third round with the 94th overall pick by the Browns and has already signed his rookie contract-four years, $6.2 million, with a $1.16 million signing bonus.
In his final year of college, Dillon Gabriel threw for 3,857 yards, 30 touchdowns, and just 6 interceptions. We’ll see if he can find success in the NFL.
