Kehrt Domenico Tedesco (39) schneller auf die große Fußball-Bühne zurück als gedacht? Denn nach dem Aus von Italiens Nationaltrainer Luciano Spalletti (66) wird der ehemalige Bundesliga-Coach des FC Schalke 04 und von RB Leipzig nun als einer seiner Nachfolger gehandelt. Das berichtet Italiens Sport-Tageszeitung „La Gazzetta dello Sport“.
SPORT BILD und BILD wissen: Tedesco, der nach seinem Aus als belgischer Nationaltrainer Anfang des Jahres ohne Job ist, würde gerne in seiner Karriere mal in Italien arbeiten. Es wäre für ihn etwas Besonderes, denn dort ist er geboren (in Rossano/Kalabrien). Zurzeit urlaubt Tedesco mit seiner Familie in Italien. Vor der EM 2024 in Deutschland hatte er noch eine Anfrage der SSC Neapel abgelehnt. Bei einem Angebot des italienischen Fußball-Verbandes wäre es mit großer Wahrscheinlichkeit anders.

Allerdings gibt es auch noch andere Kandidaten für den Job des italienischen Nationaltrainers, nachdem bereits Top-Favorit Claudio Ranieri (73) abgesagt hat. Gennaro Gattuso (47) etwa ist in den Fokus als möglicher Spalleti-Nachfolger gerückt. Einen ersten Kontakt zwischen dem Italiener und dem Verband soll es sogar schon gegeben haben.
Der frühere Milan-Profi gewann 2006 mit der „Squadra Azzurra“ in Deutschland den Weltmeistertitel. Insgesamt absolvierte er 73 Spiele für die Italien. Auch als Trainer feierte Gattuso schon Erfolge. Mit der SSC Neapel (Dezember 2019 bis Juni 2021) holte er zum Beispiel 2020 den italienischen Pokal.

Italien fürchtet derzeit, nach zwei verpassten Weltmeisterschaften in Folge auch nächstes Jahr beim Turnier in den USA, Kanada und Mexiko nicht dabei zu sein.

Former Hibernian chairman and Scottish FA president Rod Petrie has died at the age of 69. He joined the Easter Road board in 1996, becoming managing director the following year and chairman in 2004.Petrie, who left the club in 2019 after American businessman Ron Gordon purchased a majority stake, passed away at home on Thursday after a long struggle against cancer.
