Cleveland Browns put an end to Shedeur Sandres‘ fall in the NFL Draft by selecting him in the fifth round at No. 144. And while that never ceases to amaze, his exploits with the ball left more than a few mouths agape, including one NBA legend.
Recently, a viral video of the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback caught the attention of thousands of fans. In the footage, Sanders is seen throwing a pinpoint pass to wide receiver Gage Larvadain for 75 yards.
Shedeur Sanders video shows why he stayed on the field after Browns practice
His pass during a 7-on-7 drill in the team’s minicamp resulted in the receiver, with a clear path, scoring. This play raised controversy and has been repeatedly commented on by fans for its accuracy and thoroughness.
Of course, among the conversation, Shaquille O’Neal appeared. The basketball icon was amazed with Shedeur’s play and did not hesitate to share the video in his Instagram stories.

Despite the fact that Shaq did not accompany the post with a text or emojis, his lack of words resonated louder than any other statement. I mean, for O’Neal to share one of your accomplishments and not write anything is more than enough to think you’ve done well, considering he’s not known for keeping his opinion to himself. While there wasn’t much more to add, Sanders’ pass said it all.
Also, the former Los Angeles Lakers center has not taken a stance in the fight for Shedeur’s starting job with the Browns nor is he a fan of the team, so his gesture to the QB is one of deep admiration.
Shaquille’s past as a tight end
What many were unaware of about Shaquille is his past as a TE. He even played tight end, but a knee injury forced him to spend 8 weeks off the field and then give up the sport.
Speaking into the microphones of the “New Heights” podcast hosted by Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, along with his brother Jason, a former Philadelphia Eagles, Shaq explained his past in episode 142 on June 4:
“A lot of people don’t know this, that when I was coming up, football was my sport. I was football all the way, and I was really good. I used to tell people, Too Tall Jones was my father. And I played nose guard on defense and tight end on offense.”
After his time out of action, O’Neal revealed that it was his father who encouraged him to focus on basketball, and the rest is history.
Sanders’ next goal: his Browns starter
After wowing Shaquille, Shedeur will have to compete for an active role on the team’s roster. With Deshaun Watson (starter in 2024) sidelined with an Achilles injury, Cleveland will have to decide who will fill the starting quarterback job.
Veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, who were already part of the team, are joined by post-draft newcomers Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel. With four players vying for the QB1 job, the competition is stiff and numerous. And while all have demonstrated their skills and strengths, the Browns still don’t have a clear QB1.
