When Travis Hunter entered the NFL through the NFL Draft, he didn’t expect to receive such a low Madden rating. One might even say that for many, a generational two-way talent like him should have a higher rating, but reality tells a different story. And if the former Colorado football star is set to receive a lower-than-expected rating, one can only imagine what rating his former teammate Shedeur Sanders might get.

The University of Colorado product isn’t the least bit worried about a potential 76 Madden rating in the video game. When questioned about it during minicamp, he stayed firm, emphasizing that his focus lies elsewhere.
“That’s the Madden rating, that’s it,” Hunter said with a smile. When asked how quickly he could boost that number, he replied, “I’m not worried about a Madden rating right now. I’m worried about playing football.”
The potential 76 rating stems from a moment when Hunter met with former receiver and Madden ratings adjusterChad Johnson during Peacock’s Madden NFL Cast. In that conversation, Hunter discussed what his rating should be, stating that if he didn’t start with at least an 85 rating, he’d have to face Johnson one-on-one for his Heisman Trophy, adding that if he won, he’d get a 99 rating.
Chad Johnson then remarked that the best he could do for Hunter as an NFL rookie was a 76, prompting a stunned reaction from Hunter. Johnson later added that if Hunter could stop him on one of 10 routes, he’d give him a record-breaking 90 rookie rating.
That exchange was recently reposted, and Johnson responded, “Bruh Travis Hunter I’m waiting for that work.”
For context, the highest-rated rookie in Madden history was Calvin Johnson, who received an 87 rating coming out of Georgia Tech. Marvin Harrison Jr. and Joe Alt shared the highest rookie rating this year with a 79.
