Warholm pulveriza el récord mundial de 300 vallas y rompe la barrera de los 33 segundos

Fue el broche perfecto a una cita legendaria en el calendario atlético internacional. Minutos después de que ‘Mondo’ Duplantis desistiera de intentar el récord del mundo de pértiga -sí firmó la mejor marca del mitin, con 6.15-, el noruego Karsten Warholm hizo historia al romper en los Bislett Games de Oslo la barrera de los 33 segundos en los 300 metros vallas, una prueba ‘atípica’.

Desde que World Athletics hiciera oficial esta distancia el pasado mes de marzo -ya forma parte del ranking mundial aunque no es olímpica-, el plusmarquista de los 400 metros vallas se ha empeñado en dinamitar también la distancia más corta. Ya batió el récord del mundo en abril, con 33.05, pero este jueves en Oslo pulverizó el registro mundial con un estratosférico registro de 32.67.

Por la calle 7, como acostumbra, Warholm fue el mejor en la salida (0.156, tiempo de reacción), y antes del paso de la primera valla ya lideraba la prueba. Con los tres mejores atletas de siempre de los 400 metros vallas en liza, también estaban Rai Benjamin y Dos Santos, la lucha por la victoria se antojó colosal. Y eso llevó al noruego a explorar sus límites.

Pareció que Benjamin, en la curva, podía superar a Karsten, pero fue un espejismo. A la salida de la última valla, Warholm mantuvo su aceleración para cruzar la meta en 32.67 y establecer una nueva plusmarca, por delante del estadounidense, segundo con 33.22, y de Dos Santos (33.38).

Fue el colofón perfecto a una tarde en la que Duplantis, que inició el concurso de pértiga a lo grande, no pudo sellar su victoria con otro récord mundial. Sí superó el mejor registro del mitin, con 6.15, mejorando los 6,02 que él mismo había establecido en 2022.

Pero en su primer intento sobre 6,03 un mal ajuste le llevó a cometer dos nulos, que ya descentraron al sueco. Superó esa altura a la primera, y pese a la bajada de temperatura, intentó con éxito los 6.15. Ahí selló el concurso sin intentar la plusmarca mundial, que buscará de nuevo este domingo en Estocolmo, ante su público.

Soberbio Attaoui, segundo en los 800 metros

Tras ganar recientemente los 1.500 de Bydgoszcz y los 800 de Rovereto, Mohamed Attaoui desplegó ese descaro que le caracteriza sobre el tartán para rivalizar de tú a tú con Wanyonyi, el campeón olímpico de la distancia. Salió atrás el español para reservar fuerzas y resguardarse de posibles toques e inició su remontada por la calle 2 en la recta.

No logró alcanzar las primeras posiciones, en la que se situaron ya Wanyonyi y el argelino Sedyati. El campeón olímpico, muy fuerte, se quedó solo y Attaoui, de nuevo por la calle 2 en la recta, fue recuperando posiciones. De hecho, por momentos pareció que podría superar al keniata, que empezó a pagar el esfuerzo del ritmo impuesto, pero finalmente el español se tuvo que ‘conformar’ con una grandísima segunda posición, con 1:42.90, su mejor marca de la temporada, superando a varios atletas sub 1:42, como Sedjati y Tual. El triunfo fue para Wanyonyi, con 1:42.78.

Un 5.000 sin récord del mundo, pero con grandes marcas

Todas las miradas estaban puestas en el 5.000, donde estaba en peligro el récord del mundo que Cheptegei logró en Mónaco en 2020 (12:35.36). Con dos liebres, y los etíopes Kejelcha y Gebrhiwet como favoritos a grandes marcas, arrancó una prueba en la que Ndikumwenayo protagonizaba la presencia española. 

Resultó una carrera soberbia, con continuos cambios en cabeza cuando las liebres abandonaron las primeras plazas, primero Thorwirth y después Dida, al que tuvo que superar Kejelcha para avivar un ritmo que poco a poco se había ido alejando de la plusmarca mundial.

Comenzó entonces otra pugna, la de la victoria, a la que aspiraba aún un nutrido grupo de atletas. Kejelcha pidió relevo, Ndikumwenayo se acercó a las primeras plazas y el británico Mills optó por ir a por todas. Se situó en cabeza y puso en problemas a sus rivales. Aguantó hasta los 4.000 metros y en esa batalla apareció el estadounidense Young. 

No pudieron responder los etíopes, ni Gebrhiwet, ni Kejelcha. Sólo Girma intentó frenar el ímpetu de Young que, sin embargo, pudo mantenerse arriba para cruzar la meta en 12:45.27, marca personal, al igual que Mehary y Girma, segundo y tercero respectivamente.

Mills batió el récord de Estados Unidos (12:46.59) y Ndikumwenayo, enorme, también mejoró su registro personal, con 12:47.67. Fue sexto, por detrás de Gebrhiwet.

Paula Sevilla, marca personal en 400 metros

Corriendo por la calle 1, en su segunda presencia en el circuito de Liga de Diamante -tras su debut en Roma la pasada semana en los 200 metros-, Paula Sevilla regresó a los 400 metros y lo hizo a lo grande. La española ejecutó una solvente carrera, en la que logró superar en los últimos metros a Sada Williams, para acabar séptima, con un registro de 50.92, su mejor marca personal (tenía 50.99). La victoria fue para la estadounidense Whittaker, con 49.58, después de la caída sobre la línea de meta de la noruega Jaeger, que pese a todo batió el récord nacional, con 49.62.

En el foso, no tuvo su mejor día la campeona de Europa, Ana Peleteiro. Tras retirarse en la cita de Liga de Diamante de Roma después de sufrir calambres por deshidratación, la triplista se reencontró con la competición, con un mejor salto de 13,71, en su segundo intento y también en el cuarto.

La española firmó tres nulos y acabó octava, en una prueba con viento muy variable, en el que la victoria fue para la cubana Leyanis Pérez, con 14,72 en su tercer salto. Tras la competición, Peleteiro aseguró que “hoy la pelea era contra mí misma y mi cabeza. Desde el susto del otro día, los monstruos de mi cabeza no me dejaron acabar de entrar en competición. El trabajo está ahí y simplemente hay que confiar en el proceso. Lo más importante es que, pese a no encontrar buenas sensaciones, mi lesión de rodilla está más que superada”.

El luso Nader, récord nacional en la mítica milla

En la mítica milla de los Bislett Games, donde Cram batió el récord del mundo en 1985, el triunfo fue para el portugués Isaac Nader, que se impuso con un brillante tiempo de 3:48.25, con el que mejoró seis segundos su mejor marca personal para establecer, además, un nuevo récord de su país en la distancia. Hubo cascada de marcas personales y algún otro récord nacional, como el del alemán Farken (3:49.12).

La keniata Fatih Cherotich se llevó el duelo que mantuvo en la última recta de los 3.000 obstáculos con la bareiní Yavi, con 9:02.60, récord del mitin con el que situó también líder del año en la distancia.
