Micah Parsons and Trevon Diggs have been connected since their early days with the Dallas Cowboys, Diggs arriving in 2020 and Parsons joining a year later.
On the field, they’re instinctive playmakers; off it, they’ve formed a bond that Parsons recently described in detail while reflecting on Diggs’ ongoing recovery from a serious knee injury.
Diggs, a standout cornerback, missed the end of last season after suffering another blow to the same knee he’d torn in 2023. He’s spent countless hours in rehab, mostly away from the team’s facility, a choice that speaks to the level of focus and dedication he’s bringing to his comeback.
Parsons, recognizing how isolating injury rehab can feel, made a point of staying close. “I think it’s extremely difficult for Diggs,” he said on Wednesday, candidly acknowledging the mental toll injuries can take.
“I told him, ‘I’m here to strictly support you and be there for you throughout your time.'”
That steadfast presence did not go unnoticed. Despite his typically reserved demeanor, Diggs took an emotional step to show his gratitude.
“And so, just throughout that process, just seeing where he’s at and just saying his mental, I think at the end, he kind of wrote me a message for my birthday, and he didn’t tell me in person, but he wrote me how much he appreciated that I came out there and uplifted him, man,” Parsons said.
It was a rare opening from a player known for keeping his emotions guarded, one Parsons valued immensely.
Parsons added further: “So, you know, and he don’t really show a lot of emotion. It’s hard to get more than a couple words out of him, so just to get that message from it meant a lot for me, just as a friend.
“I’m happy that he’s in a bright spot. He’s doing better, and I’m just hoping he has the year that he wants to it’s just not me telling him, You gotta kick it to overdrive. Now I said no more excuses.”
Friendship, rehab and positivity: a winning formula
The dynamic between Parsons and Diggs is a powerful display of camaraderie and mental strength, something essential in an NFL season where physical recovery and psychological resilience intersect.
For Diggs, who hasn’t been fully cleared for practice, the process continues in Miami under self-guided rehab, a choice that has both personal and contractual implications.
As Dallas Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer noted, “It’s going good. I talked to Trevon last week. He’s down in Miami doing some training. No timeline for his return. But he had to come back a couple weeks ago to get checked out by the doc. All signs are positive.”
That no fixed date exists for his comeback isn’t unusual-players with severe knee damage, like Diggs, often take their time returning to top form.
Encouragingly, recent reports from Sports Illustrated confirm that he’s even moved laterally during rehab sessions-an important milestone suggesting improved mobility and stability
