Diego Souza, ao abordar o primeiro jogo do Botafogo no Mundial, elogiou o desempenho de Igor Jesus. Vendido ao Nottingham Forest, o camisa 99 deseja deixar uma última impressão positiva, algo que teve início da melhor forma possível contra o Seattle Sounders. Neste cenário, o gol anotado na vitória por 2 a 1 reforçou o discurso sobre o centroavante do futebol brasileiro.
Assim como Igor Jesus, Kaio Jorge, atualmente com oito gols na Série A, foi enaltecido por Diego Souza. Sem citar Pedro, que busca recuperar o status de titular absoluto no Flamengo, o ex-atacante acredita que o goleador do Cruzeiro vem merecendo uma convocação para a seleção brasileira de Carlo Ancelotti.
“A sorte do Botafogo é esse menino, que tem essa ‘magia da mão’ (comemoração do Kamehameha). Para mim, o Igor Jesus é o principal (centroavante) do Brasil hoje. É o dono da camisa 9 do futebol brasileiro, tá?! Ele e o menino que joga no Cruzeiro, o Kaio Jorge. Para mim, os dois jogadores mereciam estar na seleção brasileira, pelo o que jogam e o que vêm apresentando. São os dois. Fora isso, eu sei o que é jogar nessa posição.”, disse Diego Souza, em live da “Central do Pré-Jogo”, no YouTube.
Antes do gol de Igor Jesus, Jair Cunha abriu o placar diante do Seattle Sounders. Embora a primeira rodada do Mundial ainda esteja em andamento, Diego Souza considera que o zagueiro, que também deve deixar o Botafogo após o torneio, está entre os melhores defensores presentes na competição da Fifa.
“O Botafogo não conseguiu jogar. Quem segurou o rojão foi o zagueiro que fez o gol (Jair Cunha). Com esse primeiro jogo, para mim é um dos melhores da posição no campeonato. Ele joga com muita seriedade e facilidade.”, opinou.

Apesar do triunfo do Botafogo, Diego Souza não ficou satisfeito com o rendimento na estreia do Glorioso. Levando em conta o ímpeto necessário para uma boa campanha no Mundial, o ex-jogador avalia que houve uma postura sonolenta capaz de causar prejuízos nas partidas envolvendo PSG e Atlético de Madrid.
“O Botafogo foi um time sonolento para a competição […] Pelas peças que tem, eu fiquei chateado com o jeito que o Botafogo jogou. O Seattle, desde o início do jogo, mostrou que é um time de qualidade. Nos primeiros minutos, ficou com a bola e incomodou. Mostrou que tinha qualidade de posse de bola. O Botafogo não conseguiu envolver. Achou um gol de cabeça, que deu tranquilidade, mas não estava jogando bem. Não conseguiu manter a bola na frente.”, avisou.
