The OTAs and the mandatory veteran minicamp are now history for the Cleveland Browns. The team is now on break to prepare for the real training camp, which will begin in the last week of July, where the decision will be made on who will be the starting quarterback and how the team will start the season.
Shedeur shuts down talk on Deion’s health
During these past days, the Browns’ camp was entirely focused on the quarterback competition. Right now, the battle is between four players: veterans Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, as well as rookies Dillon Gabriel and the media sensation Shedeur Sanders, who is the main reason the media spotlight is so intense on the Browns’ camp.
According to insiders, Shedeur Sanders performed well in the OTAs, where he managed to throw 9 touchdown passes and 1 interception – even if it was during 7-on-7 drills. He also reportedly had standout moments during minicamp. However, he was the only quarterback who didn’t get any reps with the first team.
There’s a fifth quarterback on the team – and he’s been a failure
The Cleveland Browns have made many mistakes throughout their history, which is why they’ve been such a dysfunctional franchise. Their latest major mistake was getting rid of Baker Mayfield – who is now thriving with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers – in favor of Deshaun Watson, who has been a total failure.
Baker Mayfield gave the Browns their first playoff victory in 26 years. However, after a rough 2021 season, the team traded him for nothing to the Panthers and signed Deshaun Watson – a true failure – giving him $230 million guaranteed, and he’s still on the roster.
Watson has played only 19 games in three years, and some believe that once he recovers from his injury, he should be given another chance. This is something analyst Nick Pedone criticized via Weekends on The Fan:
“That would be, bar none, the most disrespectful thing that the organization could do,” Pedone said.
However, this is all just speculation. The reality is that with the two Achilles tendon injuries he suffered, it will be very difficult for Deshaun Watson to play in 2025, despite his rehabilitation efforts.
When Watson is healthy, he will likely get another shot in the NFL – but it will be far away from the Browns franchise.
