“You may have heard that my husband, Ben, is going through something. He developed severe pneumonia that came on very suddenly. He is currently in the hospital and cannot respond to anything at this time. We appreciate all the prayers … his healing.”
However, Ben Askren’s fight is not over, as his wife gave an update on his condition, where she revealed that the former fighter has woken up and is currently connected to a ventilator, as this is the indicated treatment for his pneumonia. However, he is not yet out of danger
Ben Askren could need a lung transplant
Ben Askren has been in a Las Vegas hospital for a week, the fighter was induced into a medical coma and although this week the athlete would have woken up, he is still in critical condition, even his wife revealed that Askren would need a lung transplant to be able to heal:
“Please pray for his recovery and, if transplant is the solution, that he can get on the waiting list quickly and easily. I know transplants are a great blessing and I’m excited to think that he will receive a gift like that. No one would take better care of that gift than Ben”.
Ben Askren’s UFC record
Askren was well known while fighting in the UFC. In fact, in 2018 he was undefeated at 18-0 with one knockout. He was even the only “MMA trade” between One Championship and UFC, where Askren was traded for Demetrius Johnson. He retired from the UFC in 2019, after three fights where he went 1-2.
In 2021, Askren returned, but this time to step into the ring against Jake Paul, but the former Bellator champion lost again. Since then, the athlete has focused on his own collegiate wrestling academy, called Askren Wrestling Academy in Wisconsin.
