O jogador de futebol Mateus Gonçalves, com passagens recentes por Athletic, Goiás e Vitória, além de um período curto no Fluminense, foi preso na semana passada sob acusação de tráfico de drogas no Mato Grosso do Sul. Segundo as autoridades, o atleta estava transportando cerca de 187kg de maconha, divididos em mais de 200 tabletes, com outros três suspeitos, que também acabaram detidos.
O grupo foi abordado pela Polícia Militar do estado na cidade de Juti, próximo à fronteira com o Paraguai, no dia 10 de junho. De acordo com a PM, Mateus e um comparsa seguiam em um carro atuando como batedores, enquanto um casal levava o entorpecente em outro veículo. Em cada automóvel foi apreendido um radiotransmissor.
O registro de ocorrência na Polícia Civil aponta que os dois carros trafegavam em alta velocidade pela rodovia MS-156, quando foi solicitado por meio de gestos que os motoristas diminuíssem a velocidade e parassem no ponto de bloqueio, que acabou furado pelo veículos. Após perseguição até Juti, o grupo foi devidamente abordado e preso.
O quarteto passou por audiência de custódia, onde teve a prisão em flagrante convertida em preventiva. Mateus permaneceu em silêncio ao ser ouvido pelos investigadores, mas os outros envolvidos confirmaram que a droga seria levada para Londrina (PR). A reportagem não conseguiu localizar a defesa do atleta.
“O inquérito está em andamento, que conforme a autoridade policial, será concluído dentro do prazo legal de 30 dias”, informou, por nota, a Polícia Civil do Mato Grosso do Sul.
Aos 30 anos, Mateus passou por diferentes clubes do futebol brasileiro e do exterior. A camisa mais recente que ele defendeu foi a do Athletic, de onde saiu em abril, logo após o fim do Campeonato Mineiro. Procurado, o clube informou que não possui mais nenhum vínculo com o jogador.
Antes, o atacante passou pelo Goiás, mas teve o contrato rescindido em outubro do ano passado por conta de um “ato de indisciplina”, como comunicou o Esmeraldino à época. Ao ser preso, Mateus teria alegado ainda ser jogador do clube do Centro-Oeste. Na tarde desta quarta-feira, porém, o Goiás divulgou uma nota na qual nega a relação.
“O Goiás Esporte Clube esclarece que o atleta Mateus Gonçalves Martins não faz parte do atual elenco do clube, ao contrário do que foi informado em documento policial divulgado nesta terça-feira. O jogador teve passagem pelo Goiás em 2024, mas não possui, neste momento, qualquer vínculo contratual ou ligação profissional com o clube. Reiteramos nosso compromisso com a transparência e nos colocamos à disposição para eventuais esclarecimentos”, diz o texto.
A passagem recente de mais destaque de Mateus Gonçalves foi pelo Vitória, onde sagrou-se campeão baiano no ano passado. Ele chegou a marcar dois gols na primeira partida da decisão contra o Bahia.
Revelado pelo Palmeiras, Mateus se destacou no futebol mexicano ainda muito jovem, defendendo clubes como Pachuca e Tijuana, entre outros. Em 2019, emprestado pelo Tijuana, teve uma passagem de poucos meses pelo Fluminense. Depois, rodou por equipes como Ceará, América-MG e Cerro Porteño, do Paraguai.
