The OTAs and mandatory minicamp have wrapped up for the New York Giants, and within the organization there’s no doubt that Jaxson Dart has a lot of talent. However, he’s not ready to be the team’s immediate starter and will have to wait behind Russell Wilson-at least for the first year.
QB Jaxson Dart clutches wild win over Shedeur Sanders and Ashton Jeanty in skill challenge
Let’s not forget that the New York Giants used the third overall pick to draft Penn State’s spectacular defender, Abdul Carter. Then, in a surprising move at the end of the first round, they traded up and selected Jaxson Dart with the 24th overall pick, hoping he would become the future of the franchise in the Big Apple.
Despite the excitement and buzz surrounding Dart-who is seen as the man to potentially change the course of the franchise-his first practices have been inconsistent. He’ll need to progress step by step, but at some point this season, head coach Brian Daboll may have to roll the dice with Dart.
Jaxson Dart finishes Giants minicamp
On June 5, at the end of OTAs, Jaxson Dart completed just 5 of 9 passes and threw two interceptions. The criticism came quickly. However, during the minicamp that wrapped up this Tuesday, he finished strong by throwing two touchdown passes in 7-on-7 drills.
After practice, Jaxson Dart spoke to the media. He appeared very mature and acknowledged that he has to take things slowly. He also mentioned the importance of having someone like Russell Wilson ahead of him-a player with all the experience in the world, including a Super Bowl ring.
“They’ve had this blueprint and they’ve done it with different quarterbacks that have succeeded at the highest level. I trust them. For me, I’m just trying to be the most coachable player I can. I want to play well in the offense and operate it at the highest level… I’m not looking for results immediately. I’m a process-driven person, so I’m taking it day-by-day, rep-by-rep,” Dart said.
According to Giants insider Jordan Raanan, it was revealed yesterday that when the official training camp kicks off in just over a month, Jaxson Dart will enter as the team’s QB2-behind Russell Wilson, but ahead of Jameis Winston and Tommy DeVito.
