Jermall Charlo indifferent to potential fight with Canelo Alvarez

Saul Alvarez is currently one of the most successful boxers in the world, having become the undisputed super middleweight champion by unifying the titles in the WBA, WBC, WBO and IBF. For his next fight, to be held on Saturday, September 13 as part of the Mexican Independence Day celebrations, he will face British monarch Terence Crawford in Las Vegas, United States, where he will put his 168-pound championships on the line.

The fight was agreed on May 3 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, after the Mexican regained the International Boxing Federation (IBF) belt after defeating William Scull by unanimous decision. Although there are still a few months to go before this fight, the Mexican’s possible next opponents continue to emerge, such as the American Jermall Charlo, who said he is in no hurry to face him.

Disgusting Jake Paul video surfaces: Bloated and doing revolting things on camera

The reasons why Jermall Charlo is not obsessed with a fight with Canelo

In statements collected by The Ring, Jermall Charlo said he is not obsessed with a fight against Canelo Alvarez and added that he just wants to be super middleweight champion and go down in history as one of the best. “I’m not obsessed with the Canelo fight. If it happens, fine, if not, that’s fine too. I want to become a world champion at 168 pounds for me, for my legacy, for my kids. Beyond that, I just let things flow. I want to be great, and go down in history as one of the best who did it,” he said.

It should be noted that Jermall Charlo had 18 long months of inactivity. However, at the end of last month, he returned to the ring with a great victory over Thomas LaManna, in a fight that ended in the sixth round. With this triumph, the American pugilist catapulted himself to second place in the World Boxing Association’s super middleweight ranking, claiming that he has a chance to fight for a title in the category dominated by Saul.

Canelo Alvarez’s history with the Charlo family

It should be noted that the Guadalajara boxer has had friction with the Charlo dynasty, where on September 30, 2023, he faced Jermell Charlo, Jermall’s brother, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he successfully defended his four super middleweight championships (WBC, WBO, WBA, IBF) after winning by unanimous decision, in a fight that the Mexican dominated from start to finish.

However, there are still no definite opponents for Saul “Canelo” Alvarez for 2026, when he traditionally fights in May, during the celebrations of the “5 de Mayo” (the Battle of Puebla) and in September with the celebrations of the “Independence of Mexico“.

Data-backed NFL Bets: A top-down approach to beating the market in Week 5

Many NFL bettors start by looking at individual markets — like spreads, totals, teasers or props — and ask, “Which spread looks good?” or “What totals stand out this week?” This is a bottom-up approach, where you focus on specific bets first. In this space, we’ll take a different approach. We’ll focus on one game each week and use a top-down strategy to break it down. While some of our bets may focus on traditional markets, like spreads or totals, we’ll often explore other opportunities to maximize value.
