Die Löwen waren letzte Saison im untergeordneten FIBA Europe Cup angetreten und hatten sich nach Viertel-Final aus wenig Chancen auf die Champions League ausgerechnet. Umso größer war nun die Freude über die Zusage! Boss Nils Mittmann (46): „Das ist großartig und spiegelt unsere stetige Weiterentwicklung wider. Die Teilnahme an der Qualifikation ist für uns auch eine wertvolle Chance, sich mit hochkarätigen Teams aus Europa messen zu können und wir glauben, dass dieses Turnier so früh in der neuen Saison viele positive Aspekte für unsere Mannschaft mit sich bringen wird.“
Sollten die Löwen in der Quali scheitern, rutscht das Team von NBA-Star Dennis Schröder (31) erneut in den Europe Cup.

Die Auslosung der acht Vierer-Gruppen und der Qualifikation steigt am 2. Juli in Lausanne/Schweiz. Die drei Qualifikations-Turniere (je acht Teams) werden vom 23. bis 28. September ausgespielt. Der Wettbewerb startet schließlich am 7. Oktober.
