The Dallas Cowboys have made a strategic move to reinforce their defensive backfield by signing cornerback Robert Rochell to a one-year contract.
This addition, confirmed by NFL insider Adam Schefter, brings a veteran presence to a secondary that already features standout talents such as Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland. Rochell, who brings with him the experience of a Super Bowl championship, will add valuable depth to the Cowboys’ cornerback group as they head into training camp.

A journey through the NFL
Rochell’s career path in the NFL has been unconventional. Drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round of the 2021 NFL Draft, Rochell was expected to be a versatile player capable of contributing in multiple areas. In his rookie season, he made an immediate impact, starting five games and recording an interception.
Although he did not play in the postseason, he was part of the Rams’ Super Bowl LVI-winning team in 2021. His performance during that season helped solidify his place as an important part of the Rams’ defense, despite being a rookie.
However, his time with the Rams was short-lived. In 2023, Rochell was released from the team before the start of his third season, despite having shown promise as a defensive back. Following his release, Rochell continued his journey through the NFL, having brief stints on practice squads for the Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, and Green Bay Packers.
During his time with the Packers, Rochell primarily contributed on special teams, logging a total of 233 special teams snaps over two seasons. His ability to play multiple roles, from cornerback to safety, and even as a special teams contributor, was evident in his diverse experience.
In March 2025, Rochell signed with the Kansas City Chiefs but was released shortly after participating in the team’s rookie minicamp. Despite the ups and downs, Rochell’s versatility and resilience have kept him in demand, and now, he is set to join the Cowboys on a one-year deal.
A versatile addition to the Cowboys
At 6’2″ and 195 pounds, Rochell brings size and athleticism to the Cowboys’ secondary. While his defensive statistics may not be extensive, his experience playing in different defensive roles and contributing on special teams make him an intriguing option for Dallas.
The Cowboys are deep in the secondary, with All-Pro Trevon Diggs and Pro Bowl corner DaRon Bland already anchoring the cornerback position, but Rochell’s versatility will only enhance the depth of the defensive backfield.
Rochell’s ability to play multiple positions on defense, coupled with his special teams experience, gives the Cowboys additional flexibility. While he hasn’t started a game since his rookie season, he provides the team with reliable depth and the ability to rotate players as needed.
As the Cowboys prepare for training camp, Rochell will have an opportunity to prove himself and compete for a role on the active roster.
Rochell’s addition is a reminder of the Cowboys’ commitment to building a competitive and deep roster, with an eye on strengthening their defense for the upcoming season.
His experience and adaptability could prove valuable as Dallas looks to make a strong push for a playoff run in the coming year. As the Cowboys continue to refine their lineup, the versatility of Robert Rochell may prove to be an essential piece in their pursuit of success.
