Im Interview mit WELT AM SONNTAG spricht Rummenigge über Bayerns Gehaltsprobleme, Vorbild Paris Saint-Germain und übt Kritik an Bundestrainer Julian Nagelsmann (37).

Rummenigge: „Das große Problem sind die hohen Gehälter. Das spürt auch der FC Bayern. In Sachen Gehälter unserer Spieler haben wir – das muss man selbstkritisch sagen – etwas großzügig gearbeitet.“
Der Rekordmeister plant eine neue Staffelung: 14 bis 16 Spieler sollen auf einem „sehr anständigen Niveau“ verdienen. Vier bis sechs auf niedrigerem Niveau. Der restliche Kader soll aus Nachwuchsspielern bestehen.
[–>Vorbild ist für Rummenigge Champions-League-Sieger Paris, der nach dem Abgang der Superstars sein Gehaltsgefüge reduziert hat: „Wie man bei PSG sieht, kann man mit einer Änderung des Systems auch großen Erfolg haben.“
Rummenigge lobt Ex-Trainer Louis van Gaal (73), der teure Transfers abgelehnt hat, mit den Worten: „Brauchen Sie nicht zu kaufen, haben wir selbst im Klub.“ Damals kamen Müller, Badstuber, Alaba hoch.

Rummenigge über die Nationalmannschaft und Nagelsmann, der bereits vom WM-Titel sprach: „Julian Nagelsmann bringt viel Energie und Überzeugung in seine Rolle – das ist grundsätzlich positiv. Manchmal aber wirkt sein Auftreten fast schon ein wenig zu fordernd und extrovertiert.“
Rummenigge zählt Nagelsmann an: „Ich finde, es kann hilfreich sein, etwas mehr Zurückhaltung zu üben. Deutschland war immer dann besonders erfolgreich, wenn man sich nicht zwangsläufig selbst zum Favoriten erkoren hat, sondern mit einem Schuss Demut ins Turnier gegangen ist. Vielleicht wäre es klug, sich das in Erinnerung zu rufen. Julian Nagelsmanns Aufgabe ist es, die Mannschaft weiterzuentwickeln.“
Für die Absage von Florian Wirtz sieht er keine Schuld beim eigenen Verein. „Wir haben alles gegeben. In diesem Fall hat keiner einen Fehler begangen. Es ist Florians Entscheidung – und die gilt es zu akzeptieren.“
