The USMNT coach Mauricio Pochettino breathed a sigh of relief with the Gold Cup result against Saudi Arabia. Chris Richards scored the only goal of the match in the 64th minute. It’s worth remembering that the Argentine coach has faced all sorts of criticism over the past week for his handling of the locker room.
Last Sunday, the USMNT looked convincing on the field and confident in this international tournament, as they stifled the Trinidad and Tobago national team with a 5-0 deficit. The Americans scored twice with braces from Malik Tillman, Patrick Agyemang, Brenden Aaronson, and Haji Wright.

Mauricio Pochettino’s management of the US national team has been the subject of much discussion, as the relationship with AC Milan striker Christian Pulisic remains unclear. The Argentine manager left his team’s star player out, arguing that players can’t decide when to play and when not to.
“The most important thing is that we explain why we decided not to include him in the two friendlies. And if you have a problem, no, it’s not my problem to understand it. When I signed my contract with the federation, I was the head coach. I’m not a mannequin,” were Pochettino’s words on the subject.

Both Saudi Arabia and the U.S. came into this match with three points after defeating Haiti and Trinidad and Tobago, respectively. Therefore, with the victory this Thursday, the USMNT is in the quarterfinals.
The Americans remain at the top of the group after scoring five goals in their debut. They are now in their prime, as their victory this Thursday, June 19, against Saudi Arabia solidifies their lead in their Gold Cup group.
