It’s been a few days now since the fiery game between the Indiana Fever and Connecticut Sun, which featured several scuffles and had many fans calling for protection for Caitlin Clark. In the aftermath, some players have been dubbed villains, while others are now heroes. Sophie Cunningham belongs to the latter group, at least in the eyes of Clark and Fever fans.
Cunningham’s late-game foul against Jacy Sheldon, who had gotten into it with Clark earlier in the contest, led to a strong reaction from both teams. Cunningham was assessed a flagrant 2 and was ejected, but she earned hundreds of thousands of news fans in the process. And she doesn’t regret what she did at all.

In a recent video on TikTok, Cunningham lip-syncs Selena Gomez‘s hit song, “Hands To Myself“. She uses a specific part that makes it clear she was referencing her foul on Sheldon and the ensuing altercation: “I mean I could but why would I want to?“
Her comments section was filled with fans, both old and new, who have gained an incredible appreciation for Cunningham following that game.
Cunningham was fined for her role in the scuffle, but she wasn’t suspended. While a fine hurts given the WNBA’s low salaries, Cunningham may have made more money due to her actions regardless.
She reportedly gained over 700,000 followers on TikTok since the incident, which will surely help her future financials. That number will only go up if she continues posting clever videos like the one she did after the fight.
